The University of Michigan volleyball team (6-2) will wrap the non-conference portion of its schedule with a home-and-home series against Notre Dame (6-2).
The Wolverines will head to South Bend, Indiana, to kick off the two-match set when they take on the Fighting Irish on Wednesday (Sept. 18) at 7 p.m. inside Purcell Pavilion. On Sunday (Sept. 22), U-M will host a Friends-themed Crisler Center showdown against Notre Dame at 3 p.m. Wednesday's matchup will be broadcast live on ACC Network, while Sunday's match will be broadcast on ESPNU.
• The Wolverines are coming off a perfect weekend at the Michigan Challenge, where they turned aside 2018 NCAA Tournament teams Navy and Eastern Michigan in straight sets.
• U-M and Notre Dame will meet for the 16th and 17th times in the history of the programs. The Irish hold an 8-7 record in the all-time series against Michigan, but Michigan has won six of the last eight meetings -- including victories in both matches of last season's home-and-home series.
• With its two wins over Notre Dame last season, Michigan has run its win streak over the Fighting Irish to a series-best three matches.
• After a strong offensive weekend against Navy and Eastern Michigan, the Wolverines moved into third in the Big Ten with a .286 attack percentage.
• With five home matches under its belt, Michigan ranks fifth in average attendance with 2,748, behind Nebraska (8,161), Wisconsin (7,052), Minnesota (5,700), and Penn State (3,302).
• Michigan used a highly-efficient offense to turn aside Navy and Eastern Michigan, hitting at a .301 clip as a team. Three players -- Jess Robinson (.643), MacKenzi Welsh (.600), and Paige Jones -- (.355) hit above .300
• The U-M offense is displayed its offensive balance during its third weekend of action. Five players finished with a kills-per-set mark over 1.50, with Jones leading the way with a 4.50 mark. Robinson added 3.17 kills-per-set, while Sydney Wetterstrom (2.67), May Pertofsky (1.83), and Cori Crocker (1.60) each turned in strong performances as well.
• MacKenzi Welsh passed the 4,000-assist plateau for her career when she divvied out 111 assists on opening weekend to become the sixth Wolverine to top the mark. Welsh has 4,217 assists for her career and is sixth all-time at Michigan, 365 away from entering the top five.
• Michigan totaled 51 service aces over its first eight matches, paced by 13 from Paige Jones. Michigan is second in the Big Ten in service aces per set at 1.82, while Jones is third the conference at 0.46 aces per set.
