Wolverines Cruise to Sweep of Buckeyes in Crisler

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Sophomore Paige Jones' 30th career double-digit kill performance helped carry the University of Michigan volleyball team to a three-set sweep (25-14, 25-17, 25-19) of Ohio State on Sunday (Sept. 29) at Crisler Center.
The victory improved Michigan's record to 9-3 overall and 2-0 in the Big Ten.
Jones paced the offensive attack, finishing with 14 kills on the day and a hitting percentage of .483. Senior Sydney Wetterstrom was the only other Wolverine to finish in double-digit kills (10). Freshman May Pertofsky and senior Cori Crocker shut down the Ohio State attack at the net, with Pertofsky turning back a match-high six blocks and Crocker chipping in five. Junior Natalie Smith finished with a team-high 11 digs and MacKenzi Welsh added seven more. Welsh topped all players with 36 assists in the match.
The Wolverines grabbed control of set one at 6-5 and never looked back to win, 25-14. Michigan finished out the stanza totaling 16 kills.
Michigan took set two, 25-17, to quickly grab a 2-0 match lead. The Wolverines led from the opening point in the set to secure the victory. U-M hit .360 over the course of the set, while holding OSU to just .118 hitting.
U-M took set three to finish off the match for a second consecutive sweep. The Wolverines grabbed control of the action early when the score was 3-2 and held the lead the rest of the way, finishing the sweep with a 25-19 third-set victory.
The Wolverines will be back in action on Friday (Oct. 4) when they will take on the Maryland at 8 p.m. in College Park.
