Wolverine Bites
• Saturday's game will be the 20th meeting between the Wolverines and the U.S. National Team Development Program. The Wolverines hold a 16-3-0 advantage in the all-time series against the USNTDP U-18 team. In last year's meeting at Yost, the U-18 team defeated U-M, 6-3. Jack Becker scored two goals while former NTDPer Nick Pastujov had two assists. Jack Hughes, Trevor Zegras and Henry Thrun each had three-point outings.
• The NTDP has produced 49 Michigan players including current seniors Nick Pastujov, Will Lockwood, Griffin Luce and Luke Martin; junior Michael Pastujov; and freshmen Johnny Beecher and Cam York.
• Started in 1996, in an effort to help USA Hockey national teams, the NTDP produces some of the best American hockey players including 327 overall NHL Draft picks and 80 first-round choices.
• Some of the most recent notable Michigan alumni ALSO are NTDP alumni. Dylan Larkin, Zach Werenski, Andrew Copp and Quinn Hughes all spent two seasons with the NTDP before making the move to Yost and onto the NHL.
• The U.S. National Under-18 Team is 3-11 against NCAA Division I opponents this season and most recently earned a 2-1 win at Minnesota. Common opponents include Notre Dame (Michigan won, 3-0 and 3-1; U-18 lost, 4-2), Ferris State (Michigan won, 4-1; U-18 lost, 5-0), Michigan State (Michigan lost, 4-3 and 3-0; U-18 lost, 2-1), Wisconsin (Michigan split, 3-2 and 3-1; U-18 lost, 3-2) and Minnesota (Michigan tied 1-1; U-18 lost, 3-1).
• Michigan moved into fifth place in the Big Ten standings after earning 11 of a possible 12 points on the road over the past two weeks thanks to a sweep of No. 14 Notre Dame and a win and tie against No. 6 Penn State. With 18 points, Michigan is two out of fourth place. Overall, the Maize and Blue sports a 10-11-3 record and has been playing well since the holiday, going 4-1-1 since the break.
• Sophomore Strauss Mann earned the Big Ten Third Star of the Week on Tuesday (Jan. 21). This comes off a Big Ten and NCAA First Star of the Week the previous week. Mann is sixth in the nation in save percentage at .937 and is 10th in the nation in goals-against average at 1.91.
• The Wolverines will resume their regular-season schedule next weekend (Jan. 31-Feb. 1) against Ohio State in what will mark U-M's first games at Yost Ice Arena since Dec. 7.
