
Wolverines to Travel to No. 17 Nebraska for Conference Showdown

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 8-ranked University of Michigan women's gymnastics team will compete in a battle for first place in the Big Ten against No. 17 Nebraska on Thursday night (Jan. 30) at 6 p.m. CST inside the Devaney Center in Lincoln. The meet will be broadcast live on ESPN2.
Nebraska Meet
• The Wolverines will enter the meet with a 4-0 overall record with a 2-0 mark in the Big Ten. The Huskers are tied with U-M at the top of the conference with a 2-0 record and are 3-1 on the season overall.
• U-M leads, 30-21-1, in the all-time series against Nebraska, but the Wolverines have lost to the Huskers the last two trips to Lincoln. Each of the last 13 Big Ten Championships have gone to either Michigan or Nebraska with the Wolverines winning 11 and Nebraska two.
Big Ten Standings
• There are three teams tied at the top of the Big Ten standings with a 2-0 record, Michigan, Minnesota and Nebraska.
• The next four teams are 1-1 in conference meets with Maryland, Ohio State, Michigan State and Penn State all winning once.
• The Wolverines are the only team in the conference undefeated overall.
Last Time Out
• Michigan held its fifth-annual Flip for Chip meet and recorded a 197.300 for its best score of the season in a conference dual against Rutgers at Crisler Center on Friday (Jan. 24).
• U-M hit on all 24 of its routines for the second straight meet.
• The Wolverines won or shared event titles on all four events and the all-around.
• Sophomore Natalie Wojcik put on a show with a win or share of a win on every event and the all-around. She had a 39.625 all-around score that included a 9.900 on vault, a 9.875 on uneven bars, a 9.950 on balance beam to match a career high and a 9.900 on floor exercise. It was the first time in her career she swept the event titles.
• Freshman Gabby Wilson continued her winning ways tying Wojcik for the vault and bars titles. She also had her best score on floor so far with a 9.875.
• Sophomore Abby Heiskell led off bars with a 9.875 to win the event for the second straight week and tie both Wilson and Wojcik.
• Two student-athletes scored career highs on beam as sophomore Maddie Mariani and senior Maggie O'Hara tied for third with a 9.875.
• The team matched the sixth best beam rotation score in the country this year with a season-high 49.450.
• Michigan's 49.325 on bars and 49.375 on floor also were season bests.
• Following the meet, O'Hara was recognized as part of a season-long senior recognition series.
In the Rankings
• Michigan climbed one spot in the Road to National rankings to a tie at No. 8 after posting its top score of the season last Friday.
• U-M remains one of the top teams nationally on vault at No. 3 and has four individuals ranked in the top 50 on the event.
• The Wolverines moved up one spot on bars (No. 7), 18 spots on beam (No. 19) and two spots on floor (No. 11) from last week.
• Individually, U-M appears in the top 50 12 times across the four events and the all-around. Wojcik is ranked in the top 30 on three events as well as the all-around. Wilson is tied for 8th on vault and is ranked on bars. Freshman Sierra Brooks is ranked on vault and beam as well as in the all-around.
• U-M was ranked No. 6 in the WCGA preseason poll and was picked to win the Big Ten Conference.
Winning Ways
• Michigan gymnasts have combined for 18 event and all-around titles in just three meets this season.
• Wojcik competed a clean sweep of all four events as well as the all-around last week against Rutgers and also won floor in the season opener against Washington and Texas Woman's University.
• Wilson has five event titles to her credit with vault wins in all three meets and bars victories against Washington, TWU and Rutgers.
• Brooks won beam in the first two meets as well as the all-around at Illinois.
• Heiskell has won bars each of the last two meets.
• Senior Lexi Funk shared the beam title at Illinois
Home Slate
• The Wolverines have three home meets remaining in 2020. The next meet at Crisler will be Sunday, Feb. 9 at 4 p.m. when Michigan welcomes Ohio State for a "Day at the Movies" meet.
