
Michigan to Face Off Against Michigan State in Dual-Meet Finale

The No. 3-ranked University of Michigan men's swimming and diving team (5-1, 3-1 Big Ten) will cap off the dual-meet portion of its schedule on Friday (Jan. 31), hosting in-state opponent Michigan State (5-5, 0-3 Big Ten) at Canham Natatorium. The meet will begin at 5 p.m., and admission is free. The first 250 fans in attendance will receive a free Michigan swimming and diving insulated cup.
Prior to the meet, Michigan will honor its 11-man senior class on the pool deck. The class includes Felix Auböck (Vienna, Austria), Jeremy Babinet (Redwood City, Calif.), Tommy Cope (Dayton, Ohio), Tim Hanson (Newport Beach, Calif.), Jake Herremans (Rockford, Mich.), Alex Martin (Moorestown, N.J.), Jacob Montague (Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich.), Miles Smachlo (Rexford, N.Y.), Charlie Swanson (Richmond, Va.), Leo Zabudkin (Frankfurt, Germany) and Rob Zofchak (Dexter, Mich.).

Team Notes
• U-M alum Frank Legacki (1959-61) will serve as the program's honorary captain on Friday. Legacki was a three-time Big Ten champion and three-time NCAA champion, winning individual national titles in the 50-yard freestyle (1961) and 100-yard freestyle (1959).
• Since 2007, U-M is 102-8-1 in dual meets, going 63-5 against Big Ten opponents.
• The Wolverines stayed at No. 3 in the latest CSCAA/TYR Top 25 poll, released on Jan. 22. [ Rankings ]
• Four swimmers have Big Ten-best times at this point in the season, including junior Luiz Gustavo Borges (50-yard freestyle), sophomore Patrick Callan (200-yard freestyle, 500-yard freestyle), senior Felix Auböck (1,000-yard freestyle, 1,650-yard freestyle) and senior Tommy Cope (200-yard IM, 400-yard IM). Additionally, U-M has conference-best times in three relays (800-yard freestyle relay, 200- and 400-yard medley relays).
• Four of the team's five divers have achieved at least one NCAA Zone Diving qualifying score. Junior Ross Todd, senior Jake Herremans and junior Chris Canning have marks in all three events, while freshman Kevin Bradley has met the score on one-meter.
Opponent Preview
MICHIGAN STATE is 5-5 on the season, including an 0-3 mark in Big Ten meets, dropping contests to Iowa (180-112), Northwestern (172-126) and Purdue (184-113). The Spartans are coming off a 163.5-135.5 victory over Cleveland State last Friday (Jan. 24). Payton Woods (50-yard freestyle) and Aidan Farley (500-yard freestyle) have picked up NCAA 'B' cuts this season.
Series: Michigan is 90-5 all-time against Michigan State and has won 41 consecutive meetings in the series.
