Pink Game Promotions: Fans are encouraged to wear pink as Michigan hosts its annual pink game. The first 750 fans will receive a pink beanie hat.
ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's basketball team (13-7, 4-5 B1G) returns to Crisler Center to welcome No. 18-ranked Iowa (18-3, 9-1 B1G) on Sunday (Feb. 2) for the pink game. The game is set for noon and can be seen live on Big Ten Network.
• The game is Michigan's pink game, with the team wearing white uniforms with pink trim and black shoes with pink trim. Michigan will honor a group of breast cancer survivors pregame during the team introductions, along with recognizing survivors in the crowd during halftime. As has become tradition, Michigan will meet with a group of women to hear their stories the day before the pink game to understand the significance of wearing pink and what these women have faced. This group of women will introduce the starting lineup for Michigan prior to the game.
• Michigan will be looking for its first win over a ranked opponent this season when the Wolverines host No. 18 Iowa. It is only Michigan's second opportunity against a ranked team at home, with the other three chances coming away from Crisler. The Wolverines are in the midst of facing the top two teams in the Big Ten this week. Michigan dropped an 81-72 contest at Northwestern on Thursday (Jan. 30), with the Wildcats tied for second in the league at 8-2. Iowa has won nine straight and is atop the conference standings at 9-1.
• Freshman Izabel Varejão has been effective off the bench in Michigan's last three games, most recently going for 11 points, four rebounds, two assists and three steals in 20 minutes at Northwestern (Jan. 30). The 11 points tied a career high, and the three steals set a new career high. During the last three games, Varejão has averaged 9.0 points per game on 66.7 percent shooting from the floor (10-for-15) and 87.5 percent shooting from the free throw line (7-for-8).
• Junior Hailey Brown has made 10 triples over Michigan's last three games on 45.5 percent shooting en route to scoring 11.3 points per game during the stretch. She is shooting 36.8 percent (32-for-87) from downtown this season, right on par with her career mark of 37.6 percent (86-for-229). In Big Ten action, she is seventh in three-point field goals per game (2.2).
• No. 18 Iowa (18-3, 9-1 B1G) is coming off a 77-66 win at Penn State Thursday (Jan. 30). The Hawkeyes are averaging 79.8 points per game on 48.4 percent shooting while allowing 68.4 points per game on 39.2 percent shooting. Iowa has three players scoring at least 15 points per game in Kathleen Doyle (18.9 ppg), Monika Czinano (15.2 ppg) and Makenzie Meyer (15.0 ppg). Iowa leads the Big Ten in three-point field goals made with 7.9 per game. The teams split a home-and-home series last season, with each team winning on its home court.
