Brown, Livers Lead Way as U-M Rolls to Season-Opening Win over Bowling Green

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Transfer Chaundee Brown Jr. scored 18 of his 19 points in the second half and helped the University of Michigan men's basketball team to a 96-82 victory over Bowling Green on Wednesday night (Nov. 25) at Crisler Center.
Senior Isaiah Livers finished just short of a double-double with 17 points and nine rebounds, while Eli Brooks rounded out Michigan's double-digit scorers with 11 points.
In their Michigan debuts, Brown hit five three-pointers, while Mike Smith scored 16 points and dished out eight assists. Freshman Hunter Dickinson added 11 points and eight rebounds.
Four Wolverines combined to account for 10 three-pointers, with Brown hitting five in the second half and Livers draining three in first. Smith and Eli Brooks each added one trey in game.
Michigan (1-0) took a 15-10 lead over BGSU less than three minutes into the first half behind a trio of three-pointers, including two from Livers.
A drive down the line by Brandon Johns Jr. and Dickinson's first career bucket capped off a 6-0 run, forcing Bowling Green (0-1)Â to take a timeout with U-M up, 25-14, with 8:30 remaining in the first half.
Livers continued to drive the offense as Johns Jr. laced a pass to the breaking senior to put Michigan up, 41-35, with just over a minute and a half to play in the first half. The Falcons kept the game within reach as the two teams went to the locker room with Michigan leading, 43-36.
Livers led the Wolverines with 13 points and six rebounds, while Smith added 12 points and three assists in the first half.
The Wolverines went 4-for-4 from the floor early in the second half before Brown hit back-to-back three-pointers to give Michigan a 61-47 lead with just over 12 minutes to play in the contest.
Brown continued to ignite the Wolverines offense, making two more from long range and putting Michigan up, 71-59, heading into the under-eight-minute media timeout.
U-M and Bowling Green went back and forth over the last 7:30 of the game with the Wolverines outscoring the Falcons, 25-23, over that span to seal the win for the home team.
The Wolverines will be back in action Sunday (Nov. 29) when they take on Oakland University at 6 p.m. at Crisler Center. The game will be broadcast live on Big Ten Network.
