ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Senior Isaiah Livers scored 22 points and freshman Hunter Dickinson added a career-high 19 to lift the No. 25-ranked University of Michigan men's basketball team to an 81-71 overtime victory over Oakland University on Sunday night (Nov. 29) at Crisler Center.
Dickinson scored 13 points in the second half and added a layup and four made free throws in the overtime period. It was his second double-digit scoring outing in as many games for the U-M center after he scored 11 points against Bowling Green on Wednesday (Nov. 25). Livers notched his fifth 20-plus point game and added four blocks, three rebounds and three assists.
Dickinson scored Michigan's first six points of the overtime period before Livers knocked down two three-pointers to put the game away for Michigan (2-0). The Wolverines outscored Oakland (0-3) in overtime, 14-4.
Freshman Terrance Williams II was big for the Maize and Blue in the closing half with a three-point play and a big assist. Williams ended the evening with seven points, four rebounds and two assists.
On the boards, Franz Wagner grabbed 13 rebounds, one shy of his career high, while Chaundee Brown Jr. had six boards.
Back-to-back three-pointers from Livers and Eli Brooks built a small five-point Michigan lead, 15-10, with just over 14 minutes left in the first half. A second pair of back-to-back threes put Michigan up, 25-19, heading into the under-eight-minute media timeout.
The Wolverine offense struggled over the closing eight minutes of the half and trailed by two, 33-31, heading into the halftime break.
U-M continued to have a hard time finding a basket to start the second half before some quick makes from Williams and Dickinson brought Michigan within one of Oakland, 56-55, with just over eight minutes to play in regulation.
Dickinson continued to be a difference-maker late in the game as he made a layup off a pass from Mike Smith to give the Wolverines their first lead since the first half, 57-56, heading into the media timeout.
Michigan and Oakland exchanged baskets with neither team able to get ahead by more than two points for the remainder of the second half, and the two teams were deadlocked at 67 at the end of regulation and headed into overtime.
Michigan will continue its home stretch Wednesday (Dec. 2) when it welcomes Ball State to Crisler Center. Opening tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m., and the game will be broadcast live on Big Ten Network.
