MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- The University of Michigan women's basketball team got 20-point games from the sophomore duo of Amy Dilk and Naz Hillmon and never trailed in a 77-52 win over Minnesota Monday night (Feb. 10) at Williams Arena.
The win marked Michigan's third straight, as the Wolverines led by as many as 25 points. Dilk went for 22 points, eight assists and four rebounds, with Hillmon posting 21 points, eight boards and five assists. Senior Akienreh Johnson added 12 points, five boards and three assists as seven Wolverines found the scoring column.
Michigan dished out a season-high 25 assists -- its first time topping the 20-assist mark since going for 22 against Kansas State in last year's NCAA Tournament (March 22, 2019) -- and held a 37-32 advantage on the glass.
The Wolverines jumped out to a 7-2 lead, getting five points from Dilk and two from Johnson just four minutes into the contest. The Maize and Blue held a 23-14 lead after 10 minutes behind nine first-quarter points from Hillmon and seven from Dilk.
Michigan grabbed a 29-17 lead on a layup from junior Hailey Brown with 5:43 to go in the second quarter. Minnesota banked a three to ignite a 5-0 run to get back within seven, 29-22, with 4:33 left.
Michigan countered with a 6-0 run out of the media timeout, getting a layup from Hillmon and two straight buckets from Dilk for a 35-22 lead at the 2:24 mark of the quarter.
U-M hit the break with a 37-26 lead after scoring eight of the quarter's final 12 points. Hillmon and Dilk each had 11 at the half, with Brown chipping in five.
Hillmon scored the first four points of the third quarter, forcing a Minnesota timeout with 7:38 to go as Michigan extended its lead to 41-26. It ended up as an 8-0 run as Hillmon scored again and Dilk put in two free throws to push Michigan's lead to 19, 45-26, with 6:30 left in the period.
Minnesota scored its first points of the quarter on a pair of free throws with 5:26 on the clock and hit a triple on its next possession to trim Michigan's lead to 14, 45-31. Minnesota's run was short-lived, however, as U-M got back-to-back triples from Brown and Dilk for a 51-33 lead with 3:55 to go in the third.
Michigan allowed just eight points in the fourth quarter while exploding for 18 on 61.5 percent shooting over the last 10 minutes to provide the final 25-point margin.
U-M will be back in home action Thursday (Feb. 13), hosting Northwestern at 7 p.m.
