Zavier Simpson (March 10)
USBWA All-District -- Senior Zavier Simpson was named U.S. Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) All-District. The senior guard is one of five Big Ten players to be named to the District V list. Simpson has averaged a career-best 12.9 points per game and became the 55th Wolverine to reach 1,000 career points. Simpson leads the Big Ten in assists per game (7.9) and he has 236 on the season -- the most in the NCAA. » USBWA Release
Franz Wagner (March 2)
Big Ten Freshman of the Week -- Freshman Franz Wagner earned his third Big Ten Conference honor after leading the Michigan offense for the third straight week. Wagner averaged 17.5 points and 8.5 rebounds, while shooting 66.7 percent (14-for-21) from the field and 50 percent (5-for-10) from beyond the arc. The guard opened the week scoring 17 points, 15 of which came in the second half, and grabbing seven rebounds against Wisconsin before capping off the week with his first career double-double at Ohio State. Wagner scored 18 points and pulled down 10 rebounds to lead the Maize and Blue, while also adding two steals and a career-best four three-pointers. » Big Ten Release
Zavier Simpson (Feb. 27)
Naismith Defensive Player of the Year Award -- Senior guard Zavier Simpson was one of 10 players named Naismith Men's Defensive Player of the Year semifinalists, and is the lone Big Ten player on the list. The finalists for the award will be revealed Thursday, March 12 and the winner will be announced Sunday, April 5 during the Naismith Awards Brunch in Atlanta. » Naismith Trophy Release
Franz Wagner (Feb. 17)
Big Ten Freshman of the Week -- Freshman Franz Wagner grabbed his second Big Ten Freshman of the Week honor after averaging 10.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, two assists and one steal per game in Michigan's key wins at Northwestern and against Indiana. The Berlin, Germany, native shot 50 percent (9-for-18) from the floor in two games and made three three-pointers on seven attempts, shooting at a 42.9 percent clip. Wagner grabbed 13 rebounds in two contests and added four assists, two steals and one block to his stat line in two games. Franz Wagner (Feb. 3)
Big Ten Freshman of the Week -- Freshman Franz Wagner earned his first Big Ten Conference honor as he was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week after helping Michigan to victories at Nebraska and against No. 25 Rutgers. Wagner averaged 14.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.5 steals in 31.5 minutes on the hardwood. The freshman guard shot 52.4 percent from the field, making several key drives that were instrumental in snapping a four-game losing streak for U-M. Wagner kicked off the week with 18 points against Nebraska, setting career best for field goals (8), field goal attempts (15), steals (3) and rebounds (8) before finishing the week with 10 points against Rutgers, including two clutch free throws down the stretch. Jon Teske (Dec. 5)
Oscar Robertson Trophy Watch List -- Senior Jon Teske was one of 46 players announced for the US Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) Oscar Robertson Trophy Watch List. The trophy is presented annually to the men's national player of the year. Teske was one of six players from the Big Ten named to the early-season listing along with Anthony Cowan Jr. (Maryland), Luka Garza (Iowa), Lamar Stevens (Penn State), Kaleb Wesson (Ohio State) and Cassius Winston (Michigan State). The 2019-20 Oscar Robertson Trophy will be presented at the NCAA Final Four in Atlanta, Georgia, in April. The winner also will be honored at the annual USBWA Awards Luncheon at the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis on Monday, April 13, 2020. » USBWA Release
Jon Teske (Dec. 2)
Big Ten Player of the Week -- Senior Jon Teske was named Big Ten co-Player of the Week after he guided the Wolverines to the Battle 4 Atlantis title. Teske earned all-tournament and MVP honors after he shot 9-for-15 from the field for a season-high 19 points while grabbing a career-best 15 rebounds and adding a season-high four blocks in an 82-64 win over No. 8 Gonzaga in the title game. U-M also defeated Iowa State (83-76) and No. 6 North Carolina (73-64). Teske averaged 13.3 points, 9.7 rebounds and 3.0 blocks, shot 58.6 percent from the field and made a three-pointer in all three games, finishing with four total. He opened with 11 points and six rebounds against Iowa State and followed with 10 points, eight rebounds, two three-pointers and four blocks in the win over the Tar Heels. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Center of the Year Award Watch List -- Senior center Jon Teske was one of 20 players selected for the preseason watch list for the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Award, which is given to the nation's top center by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. Teske is one of three centers from the Big Ten to make the listing, along with Luke Garza (Iowa) and Matt Haarms (Purdue). By mid-February, the watch list will be narrowed to 10 and to five finalists in March. By mid-February, the watch list will be narrowed to just 10 and to five finalists in March.
