Career Highs Lead Wolverines in Loss at No. 1 Oklahoma

NORMAN, Okla. -- The No. 5-ranked University of Michigan women's gymnastics team had a valiant effort in a 198.100-197.425 loss to No. 1 Oklahoma on Friday (March 6) at the Lloyd Noble Center.
Sophomore Abby Brenner had the highlight of the night with a near perfect 10 on vault. She stuck her Yurchenko 1 1/2 for a career-high 9.975. The vault finished second to a perfect 10 by Oklahoma's Maggie Nichols. It is the third time in the last six meets that Brenner's vault has scored 9.950 or better. The vault lineup recorded a 49.400 in the rotation. Freshman Sierra Brooks scored a 9.925 to tie for fourth in the meet.
Senior Lexi Funk also had a career high on the night with her 9.925 on floor exercise. She was switched to the anchor spot in the lineup and it paid dividends as she closed out the rotation by tying freshman Gabby Wilson's 9.925 from the previous routine. The team tallied a 49.450 overall on floor.
U-M closed out the meet with a 49.425 on balance beam. Junior Lauren Farley had her best routine of the season, leading off the rotation with a 9.900. Brooks and sophomore Natalie Wojcik also scored a 9.900 on the event, while Funk added a 9.875.
Michigan did not get off to the start it wanted to, scoring a 49.150 on the uneven bars. The team was led by Brooks' 9.850 on the event.
Brooks finished third in the all-around with a 39.525. It is her fifth all-around score of 39.500 or better this season.
U-M will host its final home meet of the 2020 season next Friday (March 13) when it welcomes Ball State at 6:30 p.m. inside Crisler Center. The senior class will be honored following the meet. [ Tickets ]
