ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 3-ranked University of Michigan women's gymnastics team will host No. 4 Minnesota on Friday (Jan. 22) at 5:30 p.m. in a top-five Big Ten matchup at Crisler Center. The meet will be broadcast live on ESPNU.
Series History with the Golden Gophers
• Michigan leads, 51-23, in the all-time series with Minnesota, having defeated the Golden Gophers eight times in the last 10 meetings.
• Most recently, U-M topped Minnesota at the Elevate the Stage meet, 197.950-196.650, to claim its fourth consecutive Big Ten Conference regular-season title.
A Glance at Minnesota
• The Golden Gophers rank fourth nationally after scoring a 197.025 to defeat Iowa in their season opener.
• Minnesota ranks eighth on vault (49.100), fourth on uneven bars (49.300) and balance beam (49.250), and third on floor exercise (49.375).
• Ona Loper leads the nation in the all-around (39.626) and on vault with her opening-weekend 9.950, while tying for second on the uneven bars (9.925) and tying for third on the floor (9.950).
• Lexi Ramler also had a nation-leading 9.975 score on the balance beam for the Golden Gophers.
Starting Strong
• Michigan opened the 2021 season against Ohio State last weekend and scored a 197.225 against the Buckeyes, marking the best start in program history.
• U-M's 197.225 is the second-highest season-opening scoring in Big Ten history, second only to Nebraska's 197.375 in its 2012 opener.
• The Wolverines swept all four event titles and ended the first week of competition in the top 10 nationally in all four events.
• U-M ranks third overall, while topping the rankings on the uneven bars (49.400) and floor (49.450). Michigan ranks second on the vault (49.300) and is tied for ninth on the balance beam (49.075).
Individuals in the Top 10
• Junior Natalie Wojcik ranks in the top 10 nationally in four events: tied for second on bars (9.925), third in the all-around (39.575), tied for sixth on beam (9.900) with teammate Maddie Mariani and ties for 10th on floor exercise (9.900) with Sierra Brooks.
• Brooks also ranks in the top 10 on four events -- tied for third on vault (9.925) after winning the event title against Ohio State; tied for second on uneven bars (9.925) with Wojcik Brooks; tied for 10th with Wojcik on floor (9.900); and sixth in the all-around (39.475).
• Sophomore Gabby Wilson put together a 9.950 on floor exercise to take home the event title against Ohio State and rank her third nationally.
Collegiate Debuts
• Freshmen Reyna Guggino and Naomi Morrison made their collegiate debuts in the season opener against Ohio State.
• Guggino competed on floor exercise, scoring a 9.825, while Morrison earned a 9.825 on the vault.
• Guggino also competed in the exhibition slot on the vault and Morrison exhibitioned on the beam and floor.
