Trio of Wolverines Earns Big Ten Accolades (3/8/2022)
Hunter Dickinson (March 16)
USBWA All-District V -- Sophomore Hunter Dickinson was named to the United States Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) All-District V second team for a second straight year. Composed of 10 players (Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, Wisconsin), Dickinson was named along with Detroit Mercy's Antoine Davis, Illinois' Kofi Cockburn and Trent Frazier, Indiana's Trayce Jackson-Davis, Marquette's Justin Lewis, Ohio State's E.J. Liddell, Purdue's Zach Edey and Jaden Ivey and Wisconsin's Johnny Davis, who was named the District V Player of the Year. » USBWA All-District Honors
Hunter Dickinson (March 15)
NABC All-District 7 -- Sophomore Hunter Dickinson was named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) All-District 7 second team for a second straight year. Composed of 10 Big Ten players, Dickinson was joined on the second team by Purdue's Zach Edey and Trevion Williams, Rutgers' Ron Harper Jr. and Indiana's Trayce Jackson-Davis. The first team included Illinois' Kofi Cockburn, Wisconsin's Johnny Davis, Purdue's Jaden Ivey, Ohio State's E.J. Liddell and Iowa's Keegan Murray. » NABC All-District Honors
Hunter Dickinson, Caleb Houstan (Jan. 24)
Big Ten Co-Player of the Week -- Sophomore Hunter Dickinson shared the Big Ten weekly award with Minnesota's Payton Willis after helping U-M snap a three-game losing streak with wins over Maryland (Jan. 18) and at Indiana (Jan. 23). For the week, he averaged 23.0 points, 7.5 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game while shooting 73.1 percent (19-for-26) from the field and 4-for-6 (.667) from long range. He opened with 21 points, six rebounds, a career-best six assists and two blocks against Maryland before tying a career high with three three-pointers en route to 25 points, nine rebounds and four assists in a key road win at Indiana. » Big Ten Release
Big Ten Freshman of the Week -- Caleb Houstan collected his first Big Ten Freshman of the Week honor after shooting 8-for-11 (.727) from long range and 68.4 percent from the floor while averaging 17.5 points and 5.0 rebounds a game in two U-M wins. Going 3-for-4 from deep, he opened the week with 16 points and four rebounds against Maryland (Jan. 18) in Michigan's first game in Ann Arbor in over a month. At Indiana (Jan. 23), he fired home a career-best five three-pointers on the way to a career-high 19 points along with six rebounds against the Hoosiers as U-M earned its ninth straight victory in the series. » Big Ten Release

Wooden Award Midseason Top 25 -- After earning Wooden All-American status last season, sophomore Hunter Dickinson was named one of 25 players on the watch list for the Wooden Award. He is one of nine Big Ten players on the midseason list along with Kofi Cockburn (Illinois), Johnny Davis (Wisconsin), Zach Edey, Jaden Ivey, Trayce Jackson-Davis (Indiana), E.J. Liddell (Ohio State) Keegan Murray (Iowa) and Trevion Williams (Purdue). With nine names on the list, the Big Ten has more than double the number of candidates than the Pac-12 (four). Kobe Bufkin (Dec. 20)
Big Ten Freshman of the Week -- Freshman Kobe Bufkin was named the Big Ten Co-Freshman of the Week after posting his first career double-figure scoring game against Southern Utah. He shared the award with Nebraska's Bryce McGowens. Coming off the bench and playing a career-best 18 minutes, Bufkin was 4-for-9 for a career-best 11 points. NABC Division I Player of the Year Watch List -- Sophomore Hunter Dickinson was named was one of 20 players selected to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) preseason watch list for the 2022 Division I Player of the Year Award. One of six Big Ten players on the list, Dickinson was selected along with Max Abmas (Oral Roberts), Ochai Agbaji (Kansas), Paolo Banchero (Duke), Buddy Boeheim (Syracuse), Marcus Carr (Texas), Julian Champagnie (St. John's), Kofi Cockburn (Illinois), Collin Gillespie (Villanova), Chet Holmgren (Gonzaga), Jaden Ivey (Purdue), Trayce Jackson-Davis (Indiana), Jaime Jaquez Jr. (UCLA), Johnny Juzang (UCLA), E.J. Basketball Hall of Fame Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Award Watch List -- Sophomore Hunter Dickinson was named one of 20 candidates for the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Award, honoring the top center in the nation. He is one of four Big Ten players on the preseason list along with Kofi Cockburn (Illinois), Zach Edey (Purdue) and Qudus Wahab (Maryland). Dickinson helped lead the Wolverines to their 15th Big Ten championship and fourth NCAA Elite Eight appearance in the past decade, and added consensus second team All-American accolades. He also was honored as the Big Ten's Freshman of the Year and was a All-Big Ten first team member. Dickinson led the team in scoring (14.1 ppg), rebounding (7.4 rpg) to become the first U-M freshman to lead the team in points since Ignas Brazdeikis (2018-19) and rebounds since Mitch McGary (2012-13). » NBHOF Release
Caleb Houstan (Oct. 20)
Basketball Hall of Fame Julius Erving Award Watch List -- Freshman Caleb Houstan was named as one of 20 preseason nominees for the Julius Erving Award, honoring the top small forward in college basketball. He was one of three Big Ten forwards selected along with Ohio State's Justice Sueing and Rutgers' Ron Harper, Jr. A five-star recruit from Mississauga, Ontario, Houstan prepped at Montverde Academy in Florida. After reclassifying and foregoing his senior year, he helped the Eagles to a 26-1 record, a No. 1 national ranking and the Geico High School Nationals championship for the second straight year. A McDonald's All-American Game and semifinalists for the Naismith High School Trophy, Houstan is also is active with the Canadian National Team, helping them to the bronze medal at the 2021 FIBA U19 World Cup. » NBHOF Release
Eli Brooks (Oct. 18)
Basketball Hall of Fame Jerry West Award Watch List -- Graduate guard Eli Brooks was added to the top 20 watch list for the Jerry West Award, honoring the top shooting guard in college basketball. He is one of three Big Ten players on the preseason list along with Maryland's Eric Ayala and Purdue's Jaden Ivey. Brooks, who was named captain for a second straight year, returns to the Wolverines after utilizing the NCAA's one-time rule for an extra season following the COVID-19 pandemic. Brooks has played in 125 career games including 69 starts with the Wolverines over four seasons. During that time, he has knocked down 114 3-pointers - 90 of which came during the last two seasons - and scored 722 points. DeVante' Jones (Oct. 18)
Basketball Hall of Fame Bob Cousy Award Watch List -- Graduate guard DeVante' Jones was added to the preseason watch list for the Bob Cousy Award, which recognizes the top point guard in college basketball. He was one of just two Big Ten players selected as he was joined by Illinois' Andre Curbelo. Jones enters his first season in Ann Arbor after transferring in from Coastal Carolina and utilizing the NCAA's one-time exemption. After redshirting his freshman season, he went on to score 1,381 points in 81 games, while grabbing 460 rebounds and dishing 341 assists. He was named the Sun Belt Player of the Year in 2021, and was named the league's Freshman of the Year in 2019. As a senior, he finished fourth in the nation with 73 steals (2.8 spg). » NBHOF Release
