ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan women's tennis head coach Ronni Bernstein announced the signing of blue chip recruit Lily Jones to a National Letter of Intent Thursday (Nov. 11) to join the Wolverines for the 2022-23 season.
"We are excited about the addition of Lily to our program," Bernstein said. "It's great to keep the best of Michigan in the state of Michigan. She will bring so much to our team, both with her tennis and her competitive nature."
A blue chip recruit from Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich., Jones is the top-ranked recruit in the state of Michigan and No. 11 nationally. She was ranked No. 1 in the USTA 18-and-under rankings in May. Jones won three Grade 4 ITF doubles titles and three silver balls in doubles.
Jones made the semifinals of the 2020 Orange Bowl and beat No. 20-ranked Julia Garcia in three sets -- 4-6, 6-1, 7-6 (5) -- in March at J1 in San Diego. In juniors action during the 2021 calendar year, Jones has compiled a 23-10 singles record. She reached the finals of the J5 in Medford, Ore., while making a pair of semifinal appearances at the J4 in Corpus Christi and the J1 in San Diego. Jones reeled off seven straight wins in San Diego to make it through qualifying into the main draw before falling in the semis.
She helped Grosse Pointe South to the 2019 Division 1 state championship and finished runner-up to current Wolverine Kari Miller in No. 1 singles.
