WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- The University of Michigan women's swimming and diving team dominated competition at the Morgan J. Burke Aquatic Center, taking down No. 20-ranked Missouri 215-85 and outpacing host Purdue 232-68 on Friday afternoon (Nov. 5).
The Wolverines (3-0) started the day by turning in an NCAA 'A' time in the 200-yard medley relay, as the combination of Maggie MacNeil, Letitia Sim, Olivia Carter and Lindsay Flynn topped the competition by more than two seconds, touching the wall in 1:36.25.
Michigan won 13 events in total, as Kathryn Ackerman led the way with wins in the 500-yard (4:42.58) and 200-yard (1:46.16) freestyles. Kaitlynn Sims won the 1,000-yard freestyle (9:42.66), MacNeil took the 100-yard backstroke with an NCAA 'B' cut (51.46) and Carter touched first in both the 200-yard IM (1:57.44) and 200-yard butterfly (1:55.91).
Senior Allie Klein won the 3-meter dive with a score of 314.55 and took second in the 1-meter at 274.73.
The freshman duo of Sim and Flynn saw individual success as well, as Sim won the 100-yard breaststroke (59.77) and 200-yard backstroke (2:10.06), while Flynn finished the 100 freestyle in 48.70.
Mariella Venter led the Wolverines to a victory in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:56.49, and the Maize and Blue wrapped up a successful trip with a narrow victory in the 400-yard freestyle relay as Flynn, Megan Glass, Abbey Ketslakh and Claire Newman touched the wall in 3:17.29.
The Wolverines turn around to welcome Grand Valley State to Canham Natatorium on Saturday (Nov. 6) at 10:30 a.m. for the Ian Miskelley Memorial Meet.
