ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 24-ranked University of Michigan volleyball team wrapped up its opening weekend with a 3-1 setback against No. 11 Purdue on Sunday (Feb. 14) inside Cliff Keen Arena.
Michigan (0-2, 0-2 Big Ten) was paced by freshman Jess Mruzik with 19 kills and four blocks, while junior captain Paige Jones marked 18 kills and seven digs.
Additionally, sophomore Jess Robinson had eight kills on 16 attempts and compiled a hitting percentage of .438. Redshirt freshman Hannah Grant had a match-high 17 digs, while freshman Scottee Johnson compiled a match-best 53 assists.
U-M dropped the first set, 26-24, but evened the match with a 25-22 win in the second set. The quartet of Jones, Mruzik, Robinson and junior Kayla Bair aided the set victory with three kills apiece.
The Wolverines were unable to ride the momentum of the second-set win, dropping the next two sets by scores of 25-13 and 25-18, respectively.
Purdue (4-4, 4-4 Big Ten) was led by Grace Cleveland with 19 kills and four blocks, while Caitlyn Newton had 15 kills and four blocks. As a whole, Purdue out-blocked U-M, 15-6.

U-M will travel to East Lansing, Mich., on Wednesday (Feb. 17) to take on Michigan State at 7 p.m. The matchup is a makeup contest of the postponed match from Jan. 28.
