
Michigan Earns Victory at No. 20 Illinois

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -- The No. 8-ranked Michigan women's gymnastics team earned a 197.375-196.650 victory over Illinois on Sunday (Feb. 21) at Huff Hall in the Wolverines' first road meet of the season.
U-M was once again paced by junior Natalie Wojcik, who earned her fourth straight beam and all-around titles, scoring a 9.975 on the beam and a 39.625 in the all-around. Junior Abby Heiskell captured her first title of the season with a career-best 9.950 on the vault, while Gabby Wilson and Wojcik shared the floor title with matching 9.925s.
Starting the meet on uneven bars, Michigan (4-0, 3-0 Big Ten) posted four 9.875s from Heiskell, Abby Brenner, Sierra Brooks and Wojcik to score a 49.300 before moving to vault.
Heiskell kicked off the rotation with a career-best 9.950 before Wilson scored a 9.900 to place second on the table. Michigan earned a 49.350 and took a 98.650-98.200 advantage into the third rotation.
Brenner put together a 9.875 in the third spot on floor exercise before Wojcik secured a 9.925 and Wilson matched it in the anchor position to lead the team to a 49.400 total. U-M went into the final rotation with a 148.050-147.350 lead over Illinois (4-2, 3-2 Big Ten).
On the beam, Wojcik was once again the leader for the Wolverines, scoring a 9.975 to capture her fourth title in as many events. Brooks and Farley earned 9.850s to tie for third and finalize the victory.
The Wolverines will be back in action Saturday (Feb. 27) at 2 p.m. when they host the Big Five Meet at Crisler Center. Michigan will welcome Iowa, Michigan State, Penn State and Rutgers.
