
Bock, Juda to Compete in Winter Cup Challenge

A trio of gymnasts with Wolverine ties, headlined by current U-M gymnasts in U.S. Senior national team member sophomore Paul Juda, as well as senior Cameron Bock and alum Adrian de los Angeles compete in the USA Gymnastics-sanctioned Winter Cup Challenge, Friday through Sunday (Feb. 26-28) in Indianapolis, Ind. Friday's (Feb. 26) will begin at 7:30 p.m. and will be streamed live on NBCSports.com, while competition on Sunday (Feb. 28) gets underway at 5:30 p.m., with the meet being streamed live by FloGymnastics.
The Winter Cup Challenge
• This weekend's Winter Cup Challenge will be senior Cameron Bock's fifth at the senior level and will be be the second for sophomore Paul Juda.
• The first day of competition will consist of one session for the senior division. The finals session will feature the top 28 senior athletes out of 48. The senior athletes will advance to the second day according to the Men's Program Committee's points-ranking system. For the senior division, all-around ranking will be determined on the first day of competition, and individual event champions will be determined via a combined two-day score.
• Performances at the Winter Cup Challenge will help determine the 12 men who will comprise the U.S. Men's Senior national team through the 2021 U.S. Gymnastics Championships (June 4-7) in Fort Worth, Texas. The top-six ranked all-around athletes will automatically qualify for the 2021 senior national team. The men's program committee will select six additional gymnasts from the participants at the event or from petitions to the team, with Wolverine alum Sam Mikulak taking one of the spots via petition.
• Last season, sophomore Paul Juda placed eighth in the all-around competition (81.650) Session II of the competition. He followed up with a third-place finish on high bar, marking a two-day score of 27.500. He also tied for fifth on floor exercise (28.100) and placed eighth on still rings (26.950) to earn a spot on the U.S. Senior national team.
• Senior Cameron Bock opened the competition with a 13th-place finish in the all-around in Session I with a score of 81.250. He placed third on floor exercise (28.500) and was sixth on still rings with a 27.950.
• Adrian de los Angeles placed fourth on floor exercise with a score of 28.250, his top event score of the competition in the 2020 edition of the meet.
Juda Earns Gymnast of the Week Honor
Paul Juda was named Big Ten Gymnast of the Week on Monday (Feb. 22) following his capturing four event titles and the all-around crown in U-M's tri-meet win over No. 3 Nebraska and No. 7 Illinois on Sunday (Feb. 21). Juda won floor exercise (14.650), pommel horse (14.200), still rings (14.500) and parallel bars (14.100). He also took the all-around competition with a score of 85.600.
