LEESBURG, Fla. -- The No. 23-ranked University of Michigan softball team rallied from an early deficit to defeat Wisconsin, 2-1, and complete the series sweep on the last day of Big Ten Conference "bubble" competition on Sunday (March 14) at the Sleepy Hollow Sports Complex.
Junior centerfielder Lexie Blair used a leadoff home run in the fifth inning to give U-M its first lead in the contest. Blair, who went 2-for-3 to extend her hitting streak to 12 straight games, connected with the 1-2 pitch high and sailed deep over the rightfield fence -- her second long ball of the season.
Junior catcher Hannah Carson also posted a pair of hits, while sophomore designated player Lauren Esman tallied U-M's other run after leading off the second with a triple and scoring on a subsequent groundout. Esman's run immediately answered one by Wisconsin -- off a pair of doubles -- in the top half of the inning.
Junior RHP Alex Storako (6-2) earned her third win in the Wisconsin series and her second straight after entering in relief. She struck five while allowing just one hit and one walk through three innings. Senior LHP Meghan Beaubien was effective in a no-decision effort, allowing one run on four hits and two walks while fanning eight Badgers.
Michigan (9-3, 9-3 Big Ten) will take a weekend off before resuming with the traditional home-and-away portion of its 2021 schedule. The Wolverines will travel to Bloomington, Indiana, for a four-game set against Indiana on Friday through Sunday (March 26-28). The series kicks off with a 4 p.m. slate on Friday at Andy Mohr Field.
