Both U-M and Cal will advance to the NCAA Championships as Michigan finished first in the region and Cal placed second ahead of UCLA and Ohio State. The Wolverines swept all the event titles with sophomore Sierra Brooks and freshman Naomi Morrison sharing the vault title and Brooks earning the balance beam title, while Natalie Wojcik earned the uneven bars title and Gabby Wilson clinched the floor exercise title. Brooks also won the all-around crown.
The Wolverines set their second event record of the season, scoring a program-high 49.725 on the uneven bars to top the previous record of 49.675 set at the 2016 NCAA Regionals. All five U-M scorers on bars tied or bested career highs as Wojcik won the event, tying a career-best 9.975, while Brooks, Abby Heiskell and Wilson all tied for second with career-best 9.950s. Finally, Carly Bauman rounded out the Michigan scorers with a career-best 9.900.
Michigan came out firing on all cylinders on the vault in the first rotation, notching a 49.525 behind matching 9.950s from Brooks and Morrison, while Wojcik earned a 9.900. Feeling confident heading to the uneven bars, the Wolverines earned a program record and headed into the third rotation with an overall score of 99.250 to lead the field.
Once again, Brooks led Michigan, tying a career-best 9.950 to earn the beam title, while Heiskell finished out the rotation with a 9.900 to maintain the Wolverine advantage with one rotation left on the night.
U-M ended the night with five straight scores of 9.900 or better on floor as Wilson tied a career-high 9.950 to tie for the title, and Nicoletta Koulos tied a career-best 9.900. Also earning 9.900s were Heiskell, Brooks and Wojcik.
