INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Graduate student Cameron Bock and junior Paul Juda of the University of Michigan men's gymnastics team will represent the United States at the Senior Pan American Championships from June 4-6 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, USA Gymnastics announced recently.
Bock and Juda will be joined in Rio by assistant coach Yuan Xiao, as well as Stanford's Riley Loos, Oklahoma's Vitaliy Guismaraes and traveling alternate Donnell Whittenburg.
The Senior Pan American Championships serve as the continental championships for North and South America. As designated by the International Gymnastics Federation, if an American gymnast finishes in one of the top-two positions in the all-around, the U.S. will earn an extra quota spot for the upcoming Tokyo Olympic Games. This is the final opportunity for the program to do so.
Because the event is scheduled for the same weekend as the U.S. Gymnastics Championships, which will help determine the athletes who compete at the US Olympic Team Trials, June 24-27 in St. Louis, Mo., participating gymnasts automatically will qualify to the trials.
