University of Michigan diving coach Mike Hilde has been named to the Team USA Olympic Diving coaching staff for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, the organization recently announced. It will be the first Olympic Games for Hilde.
"I am honored and excited for the opportunity to represent the USA as a coach for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics," said Hilde. "I am looking forward to this experience as a first-time Olympic coach and I am hoping the best for Michael Hixon as he competes on July 28."
Hilde will join U-M diving graduate assistant coach Hixon, who is competing in the three-meter synchronized dive. He earned a silver medal in the event in the 2016 Rio Olympics, and will pair with NCAA champion Andrew Capobianco in the 2020 Tokyo games. The pair won the U.S. Trials by more than 100 points.
Opening ceremonies for the Tokyo Games begin July 23. The three-meter springboard synchro will be held Wednesday, July 28.
