Wolverine Bites
• Michigan is 3-0 in official dual meets this season, outscoring its opposition 104-9 with bonus points in 15 of its 27 match wins.
• Graduate students Stevan Micic and Myles Amine, both Tokyo Olympians, made their season dual-meet debuts in the modified event against Arizona State last Monday (Jan. 3) and earned wins at 141 and 184 pounds, respectively. It was Micic's first collegiate appearance since the 2019 NCAA Championships. He defeated Julian Chlebove, 8-6, in his 141-pound debut. He was previously a three-time NCAA All-American at 133 pounds. Amine rolled to a 17-2 technical fall against ASU's Josh Nummer at 184 pounds. It is also a new weight for Amine, who earned three NCAA All-America honors at 174 pounds before bumping up secure a fourth at 197 pounds last season.
• Myles Amine made his debut at the MatMen Open last week (Dec. 29-30), posting a 4-0 record en route to the 184-pound title and the tournament's outstanding wrestler honors. He defeated a familiar foe in NCAA champion and former Penn State standout Mark Hall, 4-2, in the final, scoring the deciding points off a last-second takedown in the first period. It was Amine's first win over Hall; he went 0-5 against the Nittany Lion while both were in college -- all five matches were decided by a single point.
• Graduate student Logan Massa and senior Mason Parris still await their season dual debuts after not getting matches in the ASU event. Both claimed Cleveland State Open titles on Dec. 11. Massa, who recently re-enrolled in grad school to use his extra season, went 5-0 with four bonus wins, including a 19-3 technical over Ohio State's Fritz Schierl in the final. Parris similarly went 5-0 with five bonus wins; he pinned Indiana's Jacob Bullock at 6:02 in the championship final.
• Several Wolverines are bearing down on the 100-win milestone. Massa leads the pack with 99-24 record over his collegiate career. Micic owns a 94-14 record, while graduate transfer Patrick Brucki, who spent his first three seasons at Princeton, now owns a 91-18 collegiate record. Last season, Myles Amine became the 37th Wolverine wrestler to reach 100 wins and now boasts a 109-21 record.

Pittsburgh: The Panthers are 3-2 on the season after splitting their two most recent dual appearances against Big Ten opponents, earning a 26-7 win over Maryland (Nov. 22) before falling to Ohio State, 30-7, on Dec. 12. Pitt also claimed the MatMen Open team title on Dec. 30 behind a champion and eight placewinners. Seven Panther wrestlers are ranked at their respective weight classes, most notably No. 7 Micky Phillippi (133 pounds), No. 13 Jake Wentzel (165) and No. 8 Nino Bonaccorsi (197). Last Time Out
Michigan split four matches against Arizona State last Monday (Jan. 3) after COVID-19 developments and protocols pulled the majority of the Sun Devil lineup into contact tracing just hours before the dual meet in Austin, Texas. Graduate students Stevan Micic (133 pounds) and Myles Amine (184) were victorious in their dual debuts. [ Full Recap ]
