ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 2-ranked University of Michigan men's gymnastics team opened the 2022 regular season with a resounding 385.95-252.100 victory over Northern Illinois on Saturday (Jan. 8) at Cliff Keen Arena.
U-M (1-0) led wire-to-wire and swept all six team events and seven individual events. Michigan also swept the top three places on all six events individually. Event wins were secured by senior Nicholas Guy (floor exercise, vault), freshman Lais Najjar (pommel horse), David Wolma (vault), sophomore Colin Stenger (still rings), and junior Crew Bold (parallel bars, high bar).
Guy marked a 13.40 on floor and a 14.45 on vault, while Najjar scored a 12.40 on horse. Wolma matched Guy with a 14.45 on the vault table, while Stenger marked his first event win with a 13.85 on still rings. Bold earned a 14.00 on parallel bars and a 13.60 on high bar en route to the victories.
Junior David Willett (75.000) edged freshman teammate Rithik Puri (74.700) for the first all-around win of his Wolverine career. Both were paced by matching 13.70 scores on high bar.

The Huskies (0-1), coached by Michigan alum and 1999 NCAA Championship team member Josh Levin, totaled a 252.100 as a team. The Huskies competed with four gymnasts on each event due to roster limitations.
Next Saturday (Jan. 15), Michigan makes its annual trip to the Windy City Invitational, hosted by UIC at Credit Union 1 Arena in Chicago. The event is slated for a 7 p.m. CST start.
