
Michigan to Travel to Chicago to Defend Windy City Invitational Crown

The defending Big Ten Champion and No. 2-ranked University of Michigan men's gymnastics team (1-0) looks to defend its 2020 Windy City Invitational crown as it travels to Chicago for the 2022 edition on Saturday (Jan. 15) at 7 p.m. CST at Credit Union 1 Arena. U-M will compete against Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Northern Illinois, Ohio State and the host school Illinois-Chicago.
Wolverine Bites
• The Wolverines boast a quartet of gymnasts from the state of Illinois in junior Paul Juda (Deerfield), senior Alan Gerdov (Lincolnshire), as well as freshmen Lais Najjar (Oak Brook) and Rithik Puri (Chicago).
• U-M ranks as the No. 1 team in the country in the Road To Nationals rankings out of four teams that competed in week one. The Wolverines' team score of 385.950 paces the standings. The Wolverines also are tops in floor exercise (63.650), still rings (67.200), vault (69.600), parallel bars (61.350) and high bar (64.900). U-M's pommel horse score against NIU (59.250) ranks second. Michigan is ranked No. 2 in the preseason College Gymnastics Association poll.
• Six gymnasts lead the country on their respective events in sophomore Colin Stenger (still rings, 13.85), senior Nicholas Guy (vault, 14.45), freshman David Wolma (vault, 14.45), junior Crew Bold (parallel bars, 14.00; high bar, 13.60), and junior David Willett (all-around, 75.00).
• For their efforts against NIU, Nicholas Guy (Gymnast of the Week) and David Wolma (Freshman of the Week) earned Big Ten honors. Guy won a pair of event titles on floor exercise with a 13.40 and on vault with a 14.45. The win on floor was the second of his Wolverines career, and the vault victory was his fifth. Wolma took home Freshman of the Week accolades in his first meet as a Wolverine. He shared the event win with Guy on the table with a 14.45. The win was Wolma's first collegiate event title. The honor was the first for both Guy and Wolma.
