ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's gymnastics team announced Thursday (Oct. 20) its 2023 schedule, which features five regular-season home meets at Crisler Center.
Fans can get their first look at the 2023 Wolverines Saturday, Dec. 10 when they host Central Michigan, Western Michigan and Eastern Michigan for an exhibition meet at 4 p.m. at Crisler.
The 2023 season officially opens Saturday, Jan. 7 with announcement of meet and location coming soon.
U-M will host its first regular-season home meet on Friday, Jan. 13, welcoming Denver and Fisk, which is in its inaugural season, to Crisler Center for a 7 p.m. meet.
Michigan opens up Big Ten Conference competition Sunday, Jan. 22 at Michigan State before returning to Crisler for a meet against Ohio State Saturday, Jan. 28 at 4 p.m. when it hosts National Girls and Women in Sports Day. Kids will have the opportunity to interact with other female teams at Michigan prior to the meet with the Buckeyes.
The Wolverines kick off the month of February on the road at Rutgers (Feb. 3) and compete in back-to-back home meets against Minnesota (Feb. 10) and Nebraska (Feb. 17). Minnesota will be Dollar Day with general-admission tickets on sale for just $1, while Nebraska will be the Wolverines' Eighth Annual Flip for Chip Meet, honoring the life of Chip Hills, father of former Michigan gymnast Cailee Hills.
U-M goes back out on the road Friday through Sunday, Feb. 24-26 as it competes in two podium events, including the Big Five Meet.
Michigan ends the home portion of its schedule hosting reigning national champion Oklahoma on Monday, March 6 at 6 p.m. The meet also will honor the U-M seniors for their last competition inside Crisler.
The Wolverines compete in one final regular-season meet when they travel to Georgia on Friday, March 10.
Michigan will compete for its 27th Big Ten Championship title on Saturday, March 18 hosted by Iowa. NCAA Regionals are scheduled for March 29 through April 2Â and the NCAA Championship will take place in Fort Worth, Texas, on April 13-15.
After recording a program-best score of 198.525 and winning their 26th Big Ten title last season, the Wolverines return all but two routines from their 2021 national championship -- including fifth-year seniors Abby Heiskell and 2022 AAI Award winner Natalie Wojcik as well as reigning Regional and Big Ten Gymnast of the Year Sierra Brooks. Michigan broke the 198.000 barrier three times in 2022, also while breaking the vault and floor records in 2022. Last season's WCGA Regional Coach of the Year Bev Plocki also adds four newcomers to complete her 16-woman roster.
