
Michigan Sweeps Four Events at Be Better; Invite Honoring Memory of Miskelley

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- The University of Michigan men's swimming and diving team came together with Hope College, Davenport University and host Calvin University on Saturday (Oct. 22) at the Venema Aquatic Center to honor the memory of the late Ian Miskelley at the Be Better; Invite.
In the first event of the day, Noelle Kaufmann, Abigail Ketslakh and Victoria Bergeli swept the 100-yard butterfly. Kaufmann swam a 54.75 to finish first, two seconds in front of Ketslakh.
Michigan completed another sweep in the 100 back with Devon Kitchel touching first, with Letitia Sim and Sophia Tuinman finishing second and third, respectively. In the 100-yard breaststroke, Claire Newman, Kathryn Ackerman and Lindsay Flynn went one-two-three, touching the wall within two seconds of each other.
In the splash and dash, Riley Francis, Natalie Kan and Brady Kendall swept the race, finishing within 0.25 seconds of each other to keep the momentum going for the Wolverines.
On the diving front, Lucy Hogan finished first on the one-meter springboard and Evie Johnson finished first on the three-meter springboard.
In the last traditional race of the meet, the quartet of Tuinman, Ackerman, Flynn and Francis touched the wall first in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:44.55.
To start off the non-traditional races, Kathryn Shanley finished first in the 5x100 free in a time of 4:33.01.
In the mystery 100-yard individual medley, Kitchel touched the wall first in a time of 57.44 seconds, with Kan finishing second in 57.71. Sim and Newman survived all seven rounds of the mystery skin race finishing first and second, respectively. Sim won the final race, the 25-yard breaststroke, while Newman touched second.
In the 100-free relay, the team of Flynn, Newman, Sim and Ketslakh finished with in 42.93 seconds to finish first.
The Wolverines will return to the pool Friday, Nov. 4 at 3 p.m., when they host Purdue at Canham Natatorium in their first Big Ten dual meet of the season. The meet will be streamed live on B1G+.
