ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- With snow covering the ground and continuing to fall, the University of Michigan canceled three home sports events scheduled for Sunday (April 24).
The final round of the Big Ten Conference Women's Golf Championships at the U-M Golf Course, baseball's doubleheader against Ohio State at Ray Fisher Stadium, and softball's pair of games against Ohio State at Alumni Field were all canceled and will not be rescheduled.
The 54-hole totals stand as final for the women's golf event, with Ohio State (900) winning the team title by 32 strokes over runner-up Michigan (932) and OSU senior Kristen White, the Big Ten Player of the Year, claiming medalist honors with a six-over-par total of 222.
Baseball and softball each lost three games to the weather this weekend. Both were able to get in a single game Friday night, when baseball (22-12, 4-9 Big Ten) played its first night game at Ray Fisher Stadium and trounced the Buckeyes 11-3 on ESPN and softball (46-5, 11-2 Big Ten) dropped a 2-1 decision to Penn State.
Baseball is scheduled to play at Michigan State next Friday (April 29, 7 p.m.) with the game at Oldsmobile Park in Lansing, Mich. The next scheduled home games are in a doubleheader with MSU at Ray Fisher Stadium on Saturday (April 30, 4:05 p.m.). The series with MSU concludes Sunday (May 1, 2 p.m.) at Oldsmobile Park.
Softball continues its stretch of home games with a Sunday (May 1) doubleheader against Michigan State. Start time is 1 p.m. at Alumni Field.
