
U-M Sweeps Event Titles to Claim Exhibition Victory

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 4-ranked University of Michigan women's gymnastics team claimed all five event titles and earned the victory in its exhibition meet on Saturday afternoon (Dec. 10) at Crisler Center. The Wolverines scored a 196.400 and defeated Central Michigan (195.875), Western Michigan (193.550) and Eastern Michigan (190.200).
Senior Sierra Brooks showed out for U-M with four event titles, including the all-around victory with a 39.575, while also earning the title on the vault, uneven bars and floor with three matching 9.925s. Graduate student Natalie Wojcik picked up the win on the beam with a 9.925 to lead the Wolverines to a clean sweep of the event titles.
The Wolverines earned the top three spots on the vault as Abby Heiskell placed second with a 9.850 and Naomi Morrison finished third overall with a 9.800 to help U-M to a 49.025 team score in the first rotation. Despite the top three scores on the event, Michigan headed into the second rotation trailing Central Michigan, who posted a team score of 49.300 in its first rotation on uneven bars.
Moving into the second rotation, Brooks once again earned the event title for her team, while Wojcik placed second with a 9.900. As a team, Michigan carried a 97.800 running score into the third rotation as it continued to trail CMU through two complete rotations at Crisler.
Wojcik posted her second straight score of 9.900 or better as she notched a 9.925 on the beam to take the event victory and Heiskell put together a beautiful 9.900 to place second overall for the Maize and Blue. With one rotation to go, Michigan continued to sit in second overall behind the Chippewas.
U-M's floor lineup rose to the occasion and secured the victory for the Wolverines as Heiskell and Morrison posted back-to-back 9.900s to tie for second overall and Brooks followed it up with a 9.925 to take her third title of the afternoon. As a team, the Wolverines scored a 49.450 on the floor and earned the win in the exhibition quad meet.
