CHICAGO, Ill. -- The University of Michigan men's track and field team opened the first of two days at the Wisconsin Windy City Invitational on Friday (Feb. 11) with strong performances on the track and in the field.
The All-American duo of Devin Meyrer and Tom Brady both dipped well under 14 minutes at 5,000 meters, standout sprinter Dubem Amene had a top-five effort at 200 meters and Cassidy Henshaw was the runner-up in the high jump.
Meyrer clocked 13:50.72 for third, and Brady followed in fourth at 13:52.08, marking the best season debuts of their respective careers. For Meyrer, it is the third-fastest time of his career, behind his school-record 13:40.66 from last year's NCAA Indoor Championships, and it is the second-fastest indoor time of Brady's career.
In a tune-up effort for his signature 400-meter event on Saturday (Feb. 12), Amene clocked 21.37 seconds for fifth place at 200 meters on Friday.
Headlining the field event action was Henshaw, who cleared 2.10m (6 feet, 10.75 inches) for runner-up honors in the high jump. It is the second-best result of his 2022 winter campaign.
Michigan will remain in Chicago on Saturday (Feb. 12) to finish the second day of their last big regular-season road trip of the winter. Day two begins at 11:30 a.m. CST.
