ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 4-ranked University of Michigan women's basketball team (20-3, 11-2 Big Ten) wraps up a two-game road swing Sunday afternoon (Feb. 13), heading to Illinois to face Northwestern (13-8, 5-5 Big Ten) at noon CST.
Wolverine Notes
• Michigan is looking to bounce back after just its third loss of the season. U-M embarked on an eight-game winning streak after its second loss this season (Jan. 5 at Nebraska) and was 4-1 following a loss last season.
• This contest at Northwestern will mark the seventh time these teams have faced each other since the 2019-20 season. NU swept the season series in 2019-20 before Michigan knocked off the Wildcats in the Big Ten Tournament. The script was reversed last season, as U-M swept the season series, and Northwestern won in the Big Ten Tournament.
• Naz Hillmon is on the verge of two milestones, needing just one double-double to pass Trish Andrew's career record of 44 and 12 points to become the fourth member of Michigan's 2,000-point club. Hillmon scored 27 points last time out and has scored in double figures in all but one game this season.
• Sunday's game marks the return of sophomore Cameron Williams to her hometown of Chicago. Williams was a five-star recruit out of the Windy City, playing high school basketball at Whitney Young. In addition, her sister Danyelle used to play volleyball at Northwestern from 2017-20.
• The game at Northwestern will feature two players who helped USA Basketball to the gold medal at the 2021 AmeriCup over the summer in Naz Hillmon, along with Northwestern's Veronica Burton. It was the first time for both of them playing at the senior level of USA Basketball. Hillmon started five-of-six games played, averaging 11.8 and 7.8 rebounds in 21.3 minutes per game, earning her third gold medal with USA Basketball (U18 FIBA Americas and U19 FIBA World Cup).
• Northwestern (13-8, 5-5 B1G) has won two straight entering a Friday afternoon (Feb. 11) contest at Minnesota. NU is averaging 67.1 points per game on 39.4 percent shooting while allowing 63.1 points per game on 38.7 percent shooting. Veronica Burton leads the way for the Wildcats, averaging 17.7 points and 5.4 rebounds per game.
