ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan men's tennis team faces No. 2-ranked TCU in a midweek match-up in Fort Worth, Texas, on Wednesday (March 2) at 1 p.m. CT in the first of two matches during the University's spring break week.
The Wolverines will then head to the Sunshine State to take on Central Florida on Saturday (March 5) at 5 p.m.
WOLVERINE BITES
• Michigan is 5-2 on the season and coming off of a 6-1 win over Notre Dame.
• The Wolverines are No. 36 in the ITA computer rankings, with new rankings out tomorrow.
• Jacob Bickersteth is ranked No. 75 in singles with a 5-1 record in dual play, playing at both No. 2 and 3 singles.
• All eight Wolverines who have played dual singles are at .500 or better.
• Gavin Young is 10-1 in singles this season with a 5-1 dual mark and has won his last three matches.
• Nick Beaty has won each of his last three matches and is 3-1 at No. 6 singles.
• Andrew Fenty had a huge win this weekend at No. 1 singles, handing Notre Dame's ranked Alex Nefve his first loss of the season after entering the match 6-0.
• Michigan has lost just once at each No. 4, 5 and 6 singles.
• Nino Ehrenschneider/Andrew Fenty are ranked No. 14 in doubles with an 11-2 mark. They are 3-1 in dual play and a perfect 6-0 in the region.
• Michigan is 4-2 at No. 2 doubles with three different pairings used including unbeaten Patrick Maloney/Nick Beaty
VS. THE OPPONENTS
• TCU holds a 4-2 edge in the all-time series, and won the last meeting on Feb. 1, 2020, 4-2.
• Michigan is 1-0 against UCF -- the lone meeting in 2018, a 4-1 decision
SCOUTING THE HORNED FROGS
• TCU is ranked No. 2 with a 12-1 record.
• The team is coming off winning the national indoor championship, dispatching Virginia, Texas, Ohio State and Tennessee along the way.
• Five players are ranked in singles led by No. 14 Luc Fomba who is 7-2 at No. 1 and No. 16 Juan Carlos Aguilar who is 6-4 at No. 2.
• TCU has one ranked doubles pair, Alexander Jong/Lui Maxted, who sit 15th with a 9-1 record.
SCOUTING THE KNIGHTS
• UCF is 2-8 on the season most recently winning a 4-1 game at Arkansas.
• Like Michigan the Knights played and lost to Wake Forest, and also have a 4-0 loss to Ohio State.
• Trey Hilderbrand is ranked No. 55 in singles, but has gone just 1-6 this spring including 1-5 at No. 1 singles.
• Bogdan Pavel leads the teams in singles wins at 3-4 and has won his last two matches.
• Leyton Cronje/Bodgan Pavel rank No. 30 in doubles and are 4-2, playing all matches at No. 1.
• Expect Hilderbrand/Cooper White at No. 2 as they are 4-3, while Knights have experimented with six duos at No. 3 but are 1-9
