WALNUT, Calif. -- Distance runner Joost Plaetinck of the University of Michigan men's track and field team took one step closer to a return to the NCAA Outdoor Championships as he clocked a season's best in the 3,000-meter steeplechase Thursday (April 14) at the Mt. SAC Relays.
Running in the invitational section with American record-holder Evan Jager, Plaetinck crossed the line in 8:50.10 for ninth place overall. The run is a nearly six-second improvement on his time from a week ago, putting him much more solidly in position to qualify for the NCAA East Preliminary Rounds.
The NCAA East Prelims are reserved for the top-48 performers in each individual event and serve as the opening rounds of the national meet.
Action will continue at Mt. SAC on Friday starting at 11 a.m. PDT.
