ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan men's track and field team will be split between three different meets in two different time zones this Thursday through Saturday (April 14-16) as it looks to build on a strong team effort at Duke last weekend.
The Wolverines' top sprinters, jumpers, throwers and distance runners will head to the west coast for the Mt. SAC Relays at Mt. San Antonio Community College, which is annually one of the premier track and field competitions in the United States.
Select sprinters will also compete at the nearby Azusa Pacific Bryan Clay Invitational on Friday, and select sprinters, jumpers and distance runners will represent the Wolverines Saturday at the Louisville Invitational.
With the countdown to the Big Ten Championships in Minneapolis, Minn., down to four remaining weekends of regular season competition, Michigan student-athletes at all three meets will look to begin to dial in their performances in anticipation of the postseason.
Thursday action at Mt. SAC opens with Aiden Felty in the shot put prelims at 3 p.m. PT in the lone field event of the day for the Wolverines before an evening of distance racing. Big Ten medalists Joost Plaetinck (steeplechase) and Tom Brady (10,000 meters) will race in the invitational sections of their respective events, which are contained within the distance window from 6:05 p.m. PT through 10:15 p.m. PT.
Friday will be the busiest day at the newly renovated Hilmer Lodge Stadium, with Michigan events beginning at 11 a.m. PT in the field with Bera Ajala in the triple jump, Henry Sheldon in the pole vault, and, if he qualifies from Thursday's prelims, Felty in the shot put. Action on the track begins with national 110-meter hurdles contender Joshua Zeller in the prelims of his signature event at 12:05 p.m. PT, along with Job Mayhue.
Zeller, also in line for the 110 hurdles final at 2:25 p.m. PT, is one of five Michigan school record-holding All-Americans who are entered to compete Friday. Joining him are Dubem Amene (400 meters, 200 meters), Miles Brown and Cole Johnson (800 meters), and Devin Meyrer (5,000 meters).
Friday competition at Mt. SAC stretches until late in the evening when Meyrer kicks off 5,000-meter competition in the invitational section at 9:15 p.m. PT, with additional non-invitational sections featuring Wolverines to follow. Overall, Michigan could have as many as 26 entries in 16 different events on the day, counting prelims and finals separately.
Friday also includes action on the track at Bryan Clay beginning at 11:05 a.m. PT, concluding around 2:30 p.m. PT.
Saturday at Mt. SAC is quieter by comparison with only three events on the docket, but all three feature All-Americans. The 4x100 relay at 12:20 p.m. PT features both Amene and Zeller; the invitational section of the 1,500 meters includes Tom Dodd and Nick Foster; and both Brown and Amene are entered as part of the invitational 4x400 relay at 5:10 p.m. PT.
Meanwhile, limited action at Louisville is scheduled to get underway for Michigan at 1 p.m. ET and last through just before 5 p.m. ET.
Runnerspace will carry live streams of the Mt. SAC Relays on its subscription streaming service, and coverage of the Bryan Clay Invitational can be found on Flotrack's subscription streaming service.
Live results at Mt. SAC and Bryan Clay will be provided through Finished Timing, and live results from Louisville can be found at GoCards.com.
Updates will be posted to the official Michigan track and field social media channels throughout the weekend.
