
Six Incoming Wolverines to Compete at U18 World Championships

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Six incoming members of the University of Michigan hockey team have been named to rosters for the 2022 U18 Men's World Championships.
On Team USA are defenseman Hunter Brzustewicz and Seamus Casey and forwards Rutger McGroarty, Frank Nazar III and Gavin Brindley. McGroarty, who played in the championship last season was named team captain. Representing Team Canada is Adam Fantilli, who was named an alternate captain.Â
The World Championship gets underway on Saturday (April 23) in Germany with the USA facing Canada in the first game at 1:30 p.m. ET. It will be live-streamed on ESPN+ and air on a delay on the NHL Network starting at 3:30 p.m., ET.
USA and Canada will also play Czechia and Germany before the quarterfinals on April 28. The semifinals are slated for Saturday (April 30) with the medal games on Sunday (May 1). NHL Network will broadcast all Team USA games, while TSN and RDS will broadcast Team Canada's games.
Fantilli is the first Wolverine to represent Canada at the World Championships, a tournament held every year by the IIHF since 1999. Fourty-five Wolverines have represented USA including 2021-22 team members: Johnny Beecher, Matty Beniers, Dylan Duke and Michael Pastujov.
The USA has won more medals that any other country in the tournament, capturing gold 10 times (2002, 2005, 2005, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2014, 2015, 2017), silver four times (2004, 2007, 2013, 2018) and bronze three times (2008, 2016, 2019).
Canada is the defending World Champion and has won gold four times (2003, 2008, 2013, 2021), silver once (2005) and bronze three times (2012, 2014, 2015).
