BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -- University of Michigan women's gymnastics junior Sierra Brooks was named the WCGA Regional Gymnast of the Year for the second time in her career as announced Thursday afternoon (April 7) by the Women's College Gymnastics Association.
The honor is the second of Brooks's career, as she was also named the regional gymnast of the year following her freshman season in 2020.
Brooks was named the Big Ten Gymnast of the Year earlier this season, after winning 14 individual titles during the regular season, including three all-around titles and was a two-time Big Ten Gymnast of the Week. The Plainfield, Ill. native brought home two or more event titles on three different occasions this year and set career highs on three events.
The junior became the 13th Wolverine to earn a 10.0 on vault as she accomplished the feat at Nebraska, while also taking home the floor title with a career-best 9.975. Furthermore, Brooks earned a career-best 9.950 on the uneven bars against MSU to win the title and also collected the vault, beam and all-around title against the Spartans.
Brooks was the 2022 Big Ten vault champion after posting her second perfect 10.0 in the event this season. She led the North East region in the all-around and on vault, while ranking second on floor, fourth on bars and seventh on beam. The junior also ranks third nationally in the all-around, fourth on vault, and seventh on floor, earning her first-team WCGA Regular Season All-America nods in all three events.
