PRINCETON, N.J. -- Three members of the No. 6-ranked University of Michigan rowing program have been invited to participate in the 2022 Under 23 National Team Selection Camp, USRowing announced on Tuesday (May 17). Junior Elena Collier-Hezel, freshman Gabrielle Graves and senior Jeri Rhodes were the Wolverines to receive invitations.
The trio is among 65 athletes who have been invited to 2022 U-23 National Team Selection Camps this summer. Athletes selected through the camps will represent the U.S. at the 2022 World Rowing Under-23 Championships July 25-30 in Varese, Italy.
All three Wolverines received invitations to the women's sweep camp, which will take place at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Va. The camp will be led by coaches Kevin Sauer, Asiya Mahmud and Kelsie Chaudoin. The camp will lead to the selection of the women's eight and women's four with coxswain that will race in Italy.
Camps will begin June 17-19 and will run through July 10.
Collier-Hezel, Graves (1V8), and Rhodes (2V8) all helped U-M to a second-place team finish at the Big Ten Championships last weekend (May 15). Rhodes helped the 2V8 win gold, while the 1V8 boat collected silver.
Two of these three Wolverines have represented Team USA on the Under-23 World Championships platform before. Rhodes won a bronze medal with the 8+ at these same championships in 2019, in Sarasota, Fla. Collier-Hezel rowed with the four (BW4+) at the 2021 World Championships in Racice, Czech Republic. This will be Graves' first opportunity to compete at the Under-23 Championship event, though she has competed at the World Junior Rowing Championships in the past.
