BOSTON, Mass. -- A five-goal first half lifted the University of Michigan women's soccer team to a 6-2 win Sunday (Aug. 28) against Boston University at BC's Newton Field.
Junior Sammi Woods notched a brace with two goals, while senior Lily Farkas had a goal and two assists.
Boston University (2-2) got on the board first, with BU's Morgan Fagan slotting in a scissor-kick finish top-right only 1:32 into the contest.
Less than a minute later, senior Dani Wolfe leveled things at 1 as she beat her defender 10 yards out and slotted her attempt home lower-left. Michigan (3-1) went on to add three more goals in the half, with junior Kacey Lawrence, Farkas and Woods all notching markers as U-M held a 4-1 lead at the half.
Lawrence's marker, assisted by Meredith Haakenson, was a class finish top-right in the 12th minute. Just over nine minutes later, Farkas juked a defender with a step-over move and finished lower-left. The final goal of the half, courtesy of Woods, was headed home off a service from senior Claire Dawson, the first assist of her Wolverine career.
In the second half, Haakenson marked her first score of the season in the 51st minute, with helpers going to Lawrence and Farkas. Less than four minutes later, Woods bagged her second of the match with Farkas providing the service yet again.
BU's Abigail McNulty added a score for the Terriers with 10 minutes to play, bringing the final score to 6-2 in favor of the Wolverines.
Senior goalkeeper Katherine McElroy and sophomore Avery Peters each made their U-M debuts. McElroy, a Brookline, Mass., native, faced a pair of shots while Peters logged 25 minutes of action.
The six goals are the most in a match for U-M since knocking off Michigan State by a 7-3Â count on March 12, 2020.
