ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan rowing head coach Mark Rothstein announced on Wednesday (Aug. 31) that Maegan Neihart will be joining the program as a graduate assistant. Neihart will work with all athletes but will focus on leading the novice program.
"We are thrilled to welcome Maegan to the Michigan program," said Rothstein. "Maegan has a great deal of passion for the sport of rowing, and for teaching young people to find success on the water. Our coaching staff is excited to have her as part of our team, and we know she can help us get the most out of our roster. Welcome to Michigan, Maegan!"
"I am so honored to be here at Michigan!" said Neihart. "The team here has an impressive history, and I am grateful for the opportunity to learn from and work with Mark Rothstein, along with the entire staff, to help contribute to future success.
"This program is full of incredible people, coaches and athletes. I am so excited to go on this journey with them in the pursuit of competitive excellence at the Big Ten and NCAA Championships!"
Neihart comes to Ann Arbor from Stanford University, where she was an assistant coach with the lightweight rowing program for the 2021-22 season. She is a native of Bethany, Okla., and will pursue her master's degree in movement science from the School of Kinesiology.
Before beginning her coaching career, Neihart was a standout athlete at Oklahoma (2014-17), where she also was a four-time all-academic honoree and Academic All-Big 12 second team (2015) while earning her degree in multidisciplinary studies and pre-physical therapy.
Neihart began her career as a walk-on and was named Freshman of the Year following her rookie year in 2014. She collected three All-Big 12 honors and three silver medals with the 1V8 during her career, adding Big 12 Rower of the Year accolades in 2016. Neihart was a second team CRCA All-Region pick for the Sooners in 2017. She rowed in the Sooners' 1V4 during the program's second-ever appearance at the NCAA Championships.
Following her collegiate career, Neihart spent time in Redwood City, Calif., as a CrossFit coach. In 2019, she relocated to the U.S. National Team Satellite Training Center in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., coaching with the Saratoga Rowing Association while competing with ARION under Eric Catalano.
