BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The No. 15-ranked University of Michigan men's swimming and diving team fell to No. 7 Indiana 212-88 on Saturday (Jan. 14) inside Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatics Center. The meet marked the Wolverines' first return to the pool in the 2023 calendar year.
Jared Daigle grabbed the only two first-place finishes for the Wolverines on the day. He touched the wall first in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 9:08.67 before capturing a first-place finish in the 200 IM with a time of 1:47.30 in the last individual event of the day.
The quartet of Wyatt Davis, Brendan Fitzpatrick, Gal Groumi and Bence Szabados kicked off the meet as they swam to a third-place finish in the 200-yar medley relay with a time of 1:26.98.
Eduardo Moraes touched the wall third with a time of 1:37.61 i the 200-yard freestyle and Davis finished second in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 47.01. Ansel Froass came in second with a time of 54.73 in the 100-yard breaststroke.
Groumi and Tyler Ray swam their way to a second and third-place finish, respectively, in the 200-yard butterfly while Nikola Acin was the top finisher for U-M in the 50-yard freestyle, finishing fourth with a time of 20.16. Acin came storming back in the 100-yard freestyle to touch the wall third with a time of 44.23 and Davis and Daigle finished second and third, respectively, in the 200-yard backstroke.
Froass nabbed his second second-place finish on the day with a time of 1:59.84 in the 200-yard breaststroke. In the 500-yard freestyle, Moraes finished second with a time of 4:28.70. Groumi finished second in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 48.28.
In the day's final event, the team of Szabados, Acin, Cam Peel, and Davis finished second in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 2:56.70.
On the diving side, Cameron Gammage finished third with a score of 359.70 on the 1-meter springboard and picked up a sixth-place finish on the 1-meter board with a score of 315.98.
The Wolverines will return to the pool Saturday (Jan. 21) at 11 a.m. against Ohio State in Canham Natatorium.
