Michigan to Hit the Road to Face UMass

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 6-ranked University of Michigan ice hockey team (1-1-0) hits the road to take on UMass (1-0-0) in a two-game set, Friday and Saturday (Oct. 13-14) at the Mullins Center in Amherst, Mass. Puck drop for both games is set for 7 p.m., and the contests will be streamed live on ESPN+.
Notes
• Michigan and UMass have faced off just twice before, in a series at Yost in January 2022. The No. 6 Wolverines defeated he No. 10 Minutemen 4-1 and 4-2, respectively.
Michigan is ranked No. 6 in the latest USCHO poll, dropping one spot after splitting its opening series with Providence last weekend.
• Rutger McGroarty was named the Big Ten First Star of the Week on Tuesday (Oct. 10). He collected his first career four-point game on Sunday and extended his point-scoring streak to 10 games, dating back to last season, after picking up an assist on Saturday night.
• Ten players made the scoresheet on opening weekend. Josh Eernisse scored the Wolverines' first goal of the season, his first in maize and blue. Seamus Casey extended his point streak to seven, with a three-point weekend. Gavin Brindley and Frank Nazar III each picked up two goals.
• Jake Barczewski and Noah West split goaltending duties. Both made 22 saves while allowing four goals per game, with West shouldering the loss on Saturday and Barczewski taking the win on Sunday.
• Michigan averaged 36 shots on goal last weekend and 3.50 goals per game. The Wolverines led the nation in scoring offense last season, averaging 4.20 goals per game.
• All three centers are over .500 at the faceoff dot, led by Nazar, who is at 61.1 percent (22-14). T.J. Hughes has won 61.1 percent (22-14) and Garrett Schifsky is 17-16 for 51.5 percent.
• Michigan scored first in its first two games of the season. Last season, the Wolverines went 18-5-3 when scoring first.
• There are 25 former Wolverines on NHL opening day rosters, as Michigan leads all NCAA teams with the most.
