ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan wrestling team, in conjunction with the official release of the Big Ten Conference dual-meet slate, announced its 2023-24 schedule on Monday (Oct. 2), featuring 12 duals and two regular-season tournaments. Start times and television selections will be announced at a later date.
Michigan will wrestle four teams that finished in the top 10 at the NCAA Championships last season, including Penn State, Iowa and Ohio State -- all top-five NCAA finishers in 2023.
The Wolverines will kick off the season at the annual Michigan State Open on Saturday, Nov. 11, before opening their dual-meet schedule against Columbia on Friday, Nov. 17, in New York, N.Y., and also face Rider (Nov. 19), South Dakota State (Jan. 4) and Central Michigan (Feb. 25) in non-conference competition. The SDSU dual will take place at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls, S.D.
Michigan will host four Big Ten duals at Crisler Center this season: Michigan State (Jan. 14), Penn State (Jan. 19) and Rutgers (Jan. 21) and Iowa (Feb. 2). U-M's road Big Ten duals include Maryland (Jan. 12), Ohio State (Jan. 26), Nebraska (Feb. 9) and Indiana (Feb. 16).
Maryland will host the 2024 Big Ten Championships, March 9-10, at the XFINITY Center in College Park, Md., before the 2023-24 season wraps with the NCAA Championships two weeks later (March 21-23) at the T-Mobile Center in Kansas City, Mo.
U-M has six All-Americans, combining for 13 total accolades, on its roster in 2023-24 -- the sixth season under head coach Sean Bormet. Michigan returns Will Lewan and Cameron Amine at 157 and 165 pounds, respectively, and added graduate transfers Michael DeAugustino (125 pounds), Chris Cannon (133/141), Shane Griffith (174) and Lucas Davison (Hwt) over the offseason. Michigan also brought in the nation's No. 2-ranked recruiting class. The Wolverines posted an 11-4 dual record last season and took sixth at the NCAA Championships behind three All-Americans, including NCAA heavyweight champion and Hodge Trophy winner Mason Parris.
