
Wolverine Women Set Sights on Wisconsin for Big Ten Championships

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 25-ranked University of Michigan women's cross country team will travel to Madison, Wis., to take on the best in the conference at the Big Ten Cross Country Championships on Friday (Oct. 27) at 11:45 a.m. CDT. The meet, held at the Thomas Zimmer Championship Course, will be streamed live on B1G+.
Notes
• U-M will race at Thomas Zimmer Championship Course for the second time in 2023 after placing second with 49 points at the Badger Classic on Sept. 9. Michigan will compete for a conference championship in Madison for the first time since 2010 when they finished second.
• The Wolverines are one of four nationally ranked teams racing on Friday. Ohio State and Michigan State sit at No. 16 and 17, respectively, while host Wisconsin checks in at No. 18. Northwestern is receiving the most votes among teams outside the top-30 poll.
• Michigan has finished fourth or better in every conference championships meet it has participated in since 2009, including three straight league titles from 2016-2018.
• Kayla Windemuller has set the pace for the Maize and Blue in 2023, finishing as the top Wolverine in four of five races this season. Last time Windemulller ran at the Thomas Zimmer Championship Course, she finished second overall in the Badger Classic. The graduate student will look to improve on her time of 20:58.8 in last year's Big Ten Championships.
• Samantha Saenz has established consistency this season, finishing second in all four of her runs this season. Like Windemuller, Saenz has previous success at the site of the Big Ten Championships, grabbing fourth overall at the Badger Classic.
• Samantha Hastie joins the Big Ten roster for the second straight season. Last year at U-M Golf Course, Hastie clocked a 21:02.2, finishing 31st overall.
• Katelynne Hart and Danielle Page round out the returners from the 2022 Big Ten Championships squad. Hart has competed twice this season, including a 19th-place finish in the Gold race at the Sean Earl Lakefront Invite. Page last ran at the XC-23 Pre-Nationals on Oct. 14, posting a time of of 21:51.3.
• Following the Big Ten Championships, the Wolverines will have a week off before returning to Madison for the NCAA Great Lakes Regional on Nov. 10.
