ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan volleyball team (2-11, 0-4 Big Ten) will host two more Big Ten opponents in Crisler Center this weekend, starting with Northwestern (7-7, 1-3 Big Ten) on Friday (Oct. 6) at 6 p.m., followed by No. 2 Nebraska (13-0, 4-0 Big Ten) on Saturday (Oct. 7) at 8:30 p.m. Both matches will be broadcast live on Big Ten Network.
Notes
• Michigan dropped its weekend series against No. 13 Minnesota and No. 1 Wisconsin on Friday (Sept. 29) and Sunday (Oct. 1), respectively. The last time at home, the Wolverines fell to Michigan State in straight sets in front of 6,569 fans -- the second-largest crowd in program history -- at Crisler Center. The Maize and Blue has had a difficult schedule, with its opponents compiling a 112-66 overall record which ranks U-M 32nd in opponent cumulative-win percentage (.629).
• In the Big Ten, Michigan ranks in the top five in four categories -- aces per set, digs per set, team attacks per set and team service aces. The Wolverines have 86 service aces (fourth) on the season for 1.87 per set (second; 32nd nationally). U-M also ranks third in attacks per set (33.63) and is fourth in digs per set (13.85).
• Kendall Murray has had a strong start to her senior year, leads the Wolverines in kills, aces and digs. Murray has 120 kills so far with a 2.61 average per set, good for 21st in the conference. Murray is 65 percent of the way to reaching last season's total of 183 in just 45 percent of the matches played this season. She also has tallied 19 service aces for a new career high and is fourth in the conference with 0.41 aces per set. Murray also is leading U-M in digs with 119 and needs just 25 more to set a new career high.
• Jacque Boney is third on the team in kills with 92 and first in blocks with 35 (six solo, 29 assists). Boney's hitting and blocks per set percentages have been impressive, clocking in at .306 and 0.88, respectively. She also is ranked 31st in the conference in kills per set at 2.30.
• So far this season, all of Michigan's freshmen have made an impact this season. Valentina Vaulet is second on the team in kills with 93 and has nine aces so far. Lydia Johnson has 41 kills and 13 service aces. Morgan Burke has 82 assists and has done well in her role as the second setter in Michigan's 6-2 system. Carly Greskovics made her first career start against Wisconsin and has tallied eight digs and two assists.
• Scottee Johnson leads the team in assists with 337 so far, and sits at an average of 7.49 per set. She also is third on the team in aces (12) and digs (105).
• Northwestern is 7-7 overall and 1-3 in conference play. Four of the Wildcats' losses have been to ranked teams, and this past weekend they had an impressive five-set victory over No. 17 Purdue. Michigan leads 50-29 in the all-time series against Northwestern, having lost to the Wildcats only twice in the last 10 years. The Wolverines won both matches against Northwestern by matching 3-1 scores last year. Murray was second on the team in kills with 14 in both matches.
• Nebraska is 13-0 overall and 4-0 in the Big Ten this season. Michigan trails 19-3 in the all-time series against the Huskers, with the last U-M win coming on Oct. 12, 2014, in a 3-0 sweep in Ann Arbor. Last year, Michigan was swept by the Cornhuskers on Oct. 8, 2022. Murray led the team in kills with 13 and Scottee Johnson had 36 assists to lead the team.
