ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan volleyball team (4-17, 2-10 Big Ten) will play at home again this weekend with two matches at Cliff Keen Arena. Michigan will take on Iowa (8-16, 0-12 Big Ten) on Friday (Nov. 3) and Will face off against Maryland (15-9, 5-7 Big Ten) on Sunday (Nov. 5), with both matches to be streamed live on B1G+.
Notes
• Michigan currently sits at 4-17 (2-10 Big Ten) after a four-set rivalry win against Ohio State last Sunday (Oct. 29).
The Wolverines have had one of the toughest schedules in the nation this season ranking 28th in opponent win percentage (.622), with U-M's opponents holding a 229-139 record.
• At home, Michigan has had great crowd support this season as it has set the second-, third- and fourth-largest single-game attendance totals in program history. Against Nebraska (Oct. 7), 7,831 packed Crisler Center to become the program's second-largest crowd. On Sept. 22, 6,569 fans came out to Crisler against Michigan State to stamp it as the third-largest attendance number, while Sunday's attendance at Crisler versus Ohio State -- 5,901 -- came in at No. 4 all-time. Nationally, U-M ranks 14th in total attendance (32,932) and 13th in average attendance (3,293) across 10 matches.
• In the Big Ten, Michigan ranks in the top five in three categories -- aces per set (1.74, fourth), team attacks per set (34.12, third) and team service aces (132, fourth). U-M also ranks sixth in digs per set with 13.80.
• This season, the Wolverines have had a balanced attack with four players with more than 100 kills. Kendall Murray leads the team with 208 kills and ranks 18th in the conference in kills per set (2.74). She tied a career high in kills (21) against Northwestern (Oct. 21). Valentina Vaulet ranks second on the team with 167 kills, including 52 in the last four matches. Jacque Boney is third with 163. Closing out Michigan's top four is Serena Nyambio with 117 kills.
• Defensively, the Wolverines have three players with 150 digs or more. Brooke Humphrey leads the team with 195 and has more than tripled her previous three seasons combined. Murray ranks second with 176 and recently set a new career high, passing her sophomore year total of 144. Maddi Cuchran ranks third with 163 digs.
• Hannah Grant was back on the court this past weekend for the first time since Aug. 26. She played in both matches, tallying 10 digs against Penn State and was second on the team in digs against Ohio State with 15. Grant entered the match as a sub in all four sets against the Nittany Lions before starting the match at libero against the Buckeyes. She has 1,192 career digs which rank ninth all-time and is 94 away from entering eighth place.
• Morgan Burke has been the team's setter since the Indiana match (Oct. 14) and has racked up 174 assists in the last five matches. She also has added 84 digs, eight kills and six aces. A freshman from Nebraska, Burke now has 267 assists on the season.
• Five Big Ten players have had six service aces or more in a match this season, and Michigan has three of them. Lydia Johnson has the Big Ten's single-game high, seven, during her career debut against Sacred Heart. Most recently, Vaulet had six aces in a four-set win over Northwestern (Oct. 6), while Murray, U-M's season aces leader, had six in a five-set loss to Bowling on Sept. 15.
• Iowa is 8-16 overall and is last in the Big Ten with an 0-12 record. All-time, Michigan is 48-28 against the Hawkeyes and has lost only twice to them in the past 10 years. The last time Iowa defeated U-M was Nov. 23, 2022, in a five set match in Iowa City that saw Grant record 24 digs and two aces, while Boney and Nyambio had five blocks each.
• Maryland is 15-9 overall and ninth in the conference with its 5-7 Big Ten record. The teams last faced off on Sept. 24 in College Park, a 3-0 UMD win. Murray led the team in kills with 14, while Vaulet was second with nine and added three aces. The Wolverines are 14-3 in the all-time series against the Terrapins.
