Final Games of Calendar Year on Tap for Michigan at Notre Dame

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The final games of the calendar year have arrived for the No. 13-ranked University of Michigan hockey team (7-6-3, 2-4-2 Big Ten) as the Wolverines travel to South Bend, Ind., to take on Notre Dame (7-5-2, 3-1-2 Big Ten) this weekend. Friday's (Dec. 1) game starts at 7:30 p.m., while Saturday's (Dec. 2) contest begins at 6 p.m. Both games at Compton Family Ice Arena will be streamed live on Peacock.
Notes
• Michigan went 1-0-1 last weekend at St. Cloud State, earning a 2-0 shutout followed by a 3-3 draw. The Wolverines 7-6-3 overall and check in at No. 13 in the USCHO poll this week.
• Jake Barczewski was named the Big Ten Second Star of the Week after he earned his 50th career win last Friday (Nov. 24). He stopped all 30 shots he faced in his first shutout for Michigan, and seventh of his career. It marked Michigan's first clean sheet since March 5, 2022. He followed up with 36 saves in a 3-3 draw on Saturday (Nov. 25).
• Michigan holds an 85-69-6 record against Notre Dame in the all-time series, but the teams are even (30-30-2) when playing in South Bend. Last season, the teams split games in South Bend -- U-M took the opener 5-1 followed by a 3-2 overtime loss.
• The Wolverines have the best faceoff corps in the nation, ranking No. 1 in win percentage at 55.5 percent. Frank Nazar III has 170 wins (58 percent) to rank sixth, while T.J. Hughes has 166 wins (61.3 percent) to rank ninth.
• Michigan's power play is converting on 32.8 percent of its chances, to rank second nationally. The squad has 22 power-play goals, five more than the next best team. Hughes leads the team with 14 power-play points (four goals, 10 assists) while Gavin Brindley also has a team-best four power-play goals.
• Seamus Casey leads NCAA defensemen in scoring with 22 points in 16 games, netting four goals and 18 helpers. Among all positions, he ranks fourth. Casey has had at least one point in all but one game this season. Last weekend, he recorded his 50th career point.
• The Wolverines are third nationally in goals per game, scoring an average of 4.31 with 69 goals in 16 games.
