ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- In an afternoon hoops tilt before the U-M football Big Ten Championship game, the University of Michigan men's basketball team will head west for its fourth straight road game to take on the Oregon Ducks in a non-conference game on Saturday (Dec. 2) at the Matthew Knight Arena. Tipoff is scheduled for a 12:30 p.m. PT (3:30 p.m. ET) on FS1, with Jordan Kent and Eldridge Recasner as the broadcast team.
Notes
• Juwan Howard returned to U-M's bench at the Battle 4 Atlantis. Despite his return, associate head coach Phil Martelli still has served as the Wolverines' interim head coach. Howard underwent a successful heart procedure (Sept. 15) at the University of Michigan Health Samuel and Jean Frankel Cardiovascular Center.
• U-M's trip to Oregon has been four years in the making. After agreeing to a home-and-home series in 2019, the Ducks escaped Ann Arbor with a 71-70 overtime victory at Crisler Center (Dec. 14, 2019). With the departure of John Beilein to the NBA and Howard coming on board, scheduling the Wolverines' return visit will now be fulfilled.
• Michigan's trip out west will be the first of many to come for the Wolverines. Effective in August 2024, Oregon, Washington, UCLA and USC will join the Big Ten in all sponsored sports. The additions will increase the Big Ten to 18 universities.
• Michigan is playing in its fourth straight road game at Oregon. Overall, it will mark the fifth game away from Ann Arbor in the Wolverines' early non-conference schedule -- through eight games.
• Dug McDaniel has scored in double figures in all eight games and leads U-M with 18.4 points per game. He has scored 20-plus points in half of those games, including a career-best 26 vs. St. John's (Nov. 13) at the Gavitt Tipoff Games in New York. McDaniel is also leading U-M with 14 three-pointers, averaging 5.6 assists per game and free throw percentage (77.8).
• Olivier Nkamhoua has scored 15-plus points in 6-of-7 games and is second on U-M with 17.6 points per game. In addition to his scoring, he leads the Wolverines with 7.3 rebounds per game. He is 22 rebounds (478) away from reaching 500 in his collegiate career. Quietly, Nkamhoua has three-plus assists in five games and is second on U-M with 22 (3.1 apg).
• Starting all seven games -- the first starts of his career -- Tarris Reed Jr. is averaging 7.7 points and 7.0 rebounds per game. He is averaging more than 10-plus minutes from his freshman season (21.7 mpg).
• Will Tschetter continues to lead U-M from long range as he is 9-for-12 (75 percent). Nimari Burnett continues to produce on the road as 10 of his 13 long-range baskets are away from Ann Arbor. Six of his 13 were at the Battle 4 Atlantis.
