ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Closing the week and early Big Ten play, the University of Michigan men's basketball team (4-5, 0-1 Big Ten) heads to Iowa City to take on Iowa (5-4, 0-1 Big Ten) on Sunday (Dec. 10) at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. Tipoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. CST, and the game will be broadcast live on Big Ten Network.
Notes
• When the Big Ten moved to a 20-game schedule (2017), it created an opportunity to play early December games -- one home and one away. This season, U-M opened with Indiana (L, 78-75 on Dec. 5) and will finish the early conference preview at Iowa.
• Phil Martelli took over as U-M's interim head coach while Juwan Howard had his heart procedure in September. Howard returned in the Bahamas and as he continues his transition back and currently serves as an assistant coach, Martelli will continue to serve as U-M's head coach.
• Michigan carries a 98-67 all-time record against Iowa, but is 37-42 all-time in Iowa City. Michigan has lost the last two meetings against the Hawkeyes. In the last meeting, U-M fell in overtime (93-84) at Carver-Hawkeye Arena despite a 34-point effort from Jett Howard. Prior to the pair of setbacks, the Maize and Blue had won four of five.
• Michigan's road game at Iowa marks its sixth away from Ann Arbor over the first 10 games of the regular season. In the first of two meetings, the Hawkeyes make a return trip and will face the Wolverines at Crisler Center on Saturday, Jan. 27.
• Dug McDaniel has posted double-figure point totals in all nine games and leads U-M with 19.4 points per game. Overall, he has recorded five 20-plus point games and leads the team with 21 three-pointers as well as 4.9 assists per game.
• Olivier Nkamhoua has scored in double figures in eight of nine games and is second on U-M at 17 points per game. With five-plus rebounds in eight games, he leads U-M with 6.8 per game. He is 12 rebounds away from reaching 500 in his collegiate career.
• Will Tschetter continues to lead U-M from long range as he is 11-for-15 (73.3 percent). Nimari Burnett continues to produce on the road as 13 of his 16 long-range baskets are away from Ann Arbor.
• Burnett is just one point away from reaching 300 in his career, while Terrance Williams II needs 21 points to reach 500 for his career.
