ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 2-ranked University of Michigan women's gymnastics team used a program-best 49.625 on the beam to soar past No. 19 Minnesota 197.975-197.075 Friday evening (Feb. 10) at Crisler Center in the eighth Annual Flip for Chip Meet.
The Wolverines were paced by Natalie Wojcik on the balance beam as she recorded her second career perfect 10, while Sierra Brooks scored a 9.950 and Nicoletta Koulos posted her first of two career highs with a 9.925. Abby Heiskell and Gabby Wilson added 9.875s to the beam team score to pace Michigan (7-2, 3-1 B1G) to record its highest score in program history, surpassing its 49.600 at Maryland in 2021. The score also is the fourth highest in Big Ten history.
Wojcik won both the beam and all-around title as she scored a 39.675 in just her second time competing in all four events this season. Brooks and Wilson tied for second in the all-around with matching 39.650s, each earning three scores of 9.925 or better against the Golden Gophers.
After a slow start on the vault, U-M counted three scores of 9.900 or higher on the uneven bars, including a 9.925 from Brooks, as it headed into the third rotation trailing Minnesota 98.750-98.675. Along with Brooks, Wilson and Wojcik scored matching 9.900s on bars to tie for third overall.
With its program-best score on the beam, the Wolverines took a 148.300-148.075 advantage over Minnesota with one rotation remaining.
Michigan continued to show why it is the top-ranked floor team in the nation as it counted four scores of 9.950 or better. Koulos earned a career-best 9.950 in the second slot before Brooks, Wilson and Wojcik notched three straight 9.950s to close out the meet and propel the Wolverines to victory.
U-M will be back in action next Friday (Feb. 17) when it hosts Nebraska for a 7 p.m. meet at Crisler Center. The meet is set to be streamed live on B1G+.
