LINCOLN, Neb. -- The No. 4-ranked University of Michigan women's gymnastics team won its second-consecutive Big Ten regular-season championship and its eighth in program history on Monday (Feb. 27) as the Wolverines scored a 198.275 against Nebraska at the Devaney Center in the final conference meet of the regular season.
The regular-season title, which marks Michigan's eighth overall as well as its second-straight, is shared by in-state rival Michigan State.
U-M collected its third 198-or-higher score of the season and its 10th in program history. Michigan posted a 198.275 total in the victory, which third all-time in program history. The Maize and Blue also tied its program-best 49.625 on the beam for the second time in the 2023 season.
The Wolverines swept the event titles and shared the wealth among seven student-athletes. Abby Heiskell, Natalie Wojcik and freshman Kaylen Morgan shared the vault title, while Carly Bauman earned the uneven bars title outright, Nicoletta Koulos and Sierra Brooks won the beam title and Gabby Wilson won the floor title. Brooks also took home the all-around title with a 39.675.
Michigan came out of the gate on fire against the Cornhuskers and counted five scores of 9.900-or-higher for a team score 49.600 on the uneven bars. Bauman earned her third 9.950 of the season en route to her third title, while Heiskell and Wojcik each scored 9.925s.
U-M continued to fire on all cylinders on vault as Heiskell, Wojcik and Morgan each scored matching 9.900s to share the title. Michigan carried a 99.050-98.100 lead at the halfway point of the meet.
Koulos and Heiskell earned back-to-back 9.900s on the floor to start off the third rotation and Naomi Morrison and Brooks notched two straight 9.925s before Wilson went 9.950 in the anchor spot to round out a 49.600 score. Michigan led the Cornhusker by over a point, 148.650-147.350, with one rotation remaining.
Bauman's standout day continued on the beam as she led off the rotation with a career-best 9.925, while Koulos also earned a career-best 9.950 in the third slot for the Maize and Blue. Brooks matched Koulos's score in the fourth spot and Wojcik closed out the meet with a 9.925 to tie Michigan's beam record of 49.625.
Michigan returns to action on Monday (March 6) for its final home meet of the season when it hosts No. 1-ranked Oklahoma at 5:30 p.m. in Crisler Center. It's a maize out and tickets to the event are only $1 for senior day. The first 1,500 fans in attendance will receive a Michigan Women's Gymnastics T-Shirt. The meet will be aired live on ESPNU and U-M will honor its five seniors following the completion of the meet.
